Subject: NYC Parking ticket! Need help!

Ok,

I'v vacationing in NYC for a couple of days and decide to park on a street where other cars are parked (I really didn't understand what was going on with the no standing signs) I didn't park near a no stading sign but I did park on a block with one I guess. Anyway myself along with the other cars on the block all got tickets! I just figured that since there were other cars on the block that it was ok. (I know what you all are going to say... and I will admit maybe I was at fault?)

Anyway, are there any suggestions as to getting out of this $85 ticket? All areas of the ticket are filled in except the writing isn't very legible. (eg. 7's look like parts of 2's and the "/" between the date continues down to the what looks like "1" in the next line. Is it easy to get out because of the legibility of the ticket? Any help is appreicated. BTW This was in a rental car.

I'm pissed because NYC wants tourists and when they come they get tickets!! Mark the damn streets better!!!

Probably alternate parking- not supposed to park on that side of the street on that day. If your not from NY don't worry about it.

Poor advice! It's a computerized world out there, they can find you very easily. The rental car company will get the ticket, see you had the car rented at that day and time and they will deduct the ticket from the credit card you used to pay for the rental. The way fines escalate, I'd pay it and lick my wounds.

Jim

P.S. Think of it from the other side. Thousands of people parking where ever they damn well please. Gotta get control somehow. NY isn't perfect but it's still the greatest city in the world!

As a NYC (Manhattan) Resident ... No Standing is different than "no parking". No Standing means "do not even stop here for a second even if you don't exit the car"... No Parking means NO PARKING. Parking might also require a permit or .25 per 1/4 hour ($1 hour, 1 or 2 hrs. maximum) Usually the sign will say "No Standing except for trucks loading or unloading" which exempts "commercial" plates for a brief period of time. Then you have the 100,000 cars with diplomatic plates (Think U.N.), police plates, or city official plates that can park basically anywhere anytime. I could go on and on about alternate side of the street parking (for the sweepers), restricted hours, etc., etc., etc. Or you could park in a "daily" garage for between $30 and $50 day (+18.5% tax) or do like me and pay $450 per month ... but that is only in my condo building and if I drive elsewhere I have to pay again.

If the regulations were not so tight, where do you think 19 million (daytime population) people would park if there were not such strict rules.

Sounds horrible right...but it's the price we pay for orderly conduct in the "one" of the greatest cities on earth.

Sorry but I think you were busted.

Also, MoPar Man is right...they will track you down, and if you don't get the message or don't pay ...it don't matter because they can just suspend your license without further notification (read the fine print). Happened to my buddy from Florida.
