Subject: 4x4 use?
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm a newbie to the 4WD world as far as truck ownership goes. I've beat on many other trucks (no Dodges) in my employment. Now I'll be purchasing a 2001 Dak CC with the 4.7L V8. I don't want to kill this one so I have some concerns about using the 4WD.

At what speeds and what gear should I be using to switch safely from 2Hi to 4Hi to 4Low? Neutral for the 4Low?

I'll be towing a small load up to AK during January. What kind of limits are there on using the 4Hi? Should this only be used on slick roads? I am assuming there will be alot of bad conditions on the way up.

Thanks in advance

I believe the owner's manual states that you can safely switch from 2Hi to 4Hi as long as you're driving under 90Kms/h. And yes, you have to use neutral to switch to 4Lo. As far as using 4Hi, it's all good as long as you're off pavement. Dirt, mud, snow, it's all good. Happy 4 wheelin'!
