...with Dodge/Chrysler that is...

about 2 years ago, I got my Dak USED... '99 V6 reg. cab that had about 18k miles on it when I got it. I've had only a few notable problems: About 2 or 3 months after I got it, the tranny started slipping. Took it in, they replaced the timing chain, and fixed the tranny. I didn't have to pay anything, thx to extended warranty. Then about 2 months ago, I noticed a lot of splattered something all over the engine and under the hood... Looked like burned oil, and scared the hell outta me. Turned out, it was anti-freeze... So I took it in and it turned out, the waterpump blew so they replaced it. The full-warranty was over, but it's still partially covered until 75k miles (I'm up to 48k now). It cost me too much to fix that time... Around 300. Ouch.

Anyway, after that, I have no problems. I drive the hell out of it, since the day I got it. powerslide through turns, and mash the gas quite a bit and take off. Overall, it's been a great truck and I am glad I got it over anything else. I got it used, for crying out loud and only have had 2 problems with it... Tranny and waterpump. I always hear people complain about Dodge being terrible vehicles, and stories of getting a BRAND NEW Dakota and having problems from the get-go that just sounds like a real nightmare, and it's almost unbelieveable they have all these problems at once. Are these people for real, or do they just have some kind of deep-rooted hatred against Dodge/Chrysler for some reason?

2000 4.7L CC w/ almost 40K miles. Only problem i've had is the front rotors were rutting out. They were still fully functional but annoying. So I replaced them. Now my front brakes are producing a high pitched squeal. It's probably something minor. Overall my Dak has been the most reliable vehicle i'm yet to own. Every mod I add to it seems to make it run a little better and make it a little more efficient.

I agree, a car is a car, the ones designed and manufactured by americans just are designed with cost first, quality last in mind, the almighty dollar comes first in the executive board room.

Just bought my son a '98 Dak CC 5.2, hope he can drive the hell out of it with little or no problems througout his college days.

I have a '01 Civic, had a '91 accord, and before that an '82 accord, best cars made since the '80s. Had a '95 Mazda 626 biggest piece of crap I ever had. The wife has a '97 Caravan also a piece of crap, to many problems to speak of.. both in and out of warranty.

When I was a kid, long ago, I had 60's dodge darts, several, slant 6's couldn't kill them, also had a '65 barracuda formula S, 273 4spd, lots of mods... best car ever, retired after 150k and collision with large pole. Had a '77 Charger 400.. Dodge man from way back.. Rememeber Don Garlits put hemi's on the drag strip.

I think these people just do have some deep rooted hatred for Dodge / Chrysler. Funy thing is, I've know people who have had ugly problems with their Chevy's, but God forbid they ever admit it or talk about them. So every make has its problems, no matter what people say.

I also had one the old Darts with the push button automatic. The Slant Six is one tough motor. Also very easy to service.
I bought a Dodge Power Wagon 4x4 new in 76. Piece of crap.

Yeah, it all depends with American cars.

I drove a 1981 Buick LeSabre (land barge) in college. Bought it for 700 bucks, drove the crap out of it for 2 years, not a single problem.

1987 Pontiac Bonneville - engine caught on fire on the way home. Total loss.

My first new vehicle, a 2001 Dakota with 26,000 miles has been in the shop 3 times. Two of those involved pulling the tranny out for repairs and the other was a simple software reflash. Total of 18 days in the shop so far. I have another appointment made, cause they think they have to open up the rear differential. Go figure.

I was a life long Chevy fan until I bought a 2000 Silverado with the 5.3 in it.Every time you started the thing up it sounded like it had a rod bearing going out. It knocked like crazy until the oil temp/pressure came up.This really ticked me off! The service manager said that they all did this. Great! I completely lost confidence in Chevy and traded it in for a 2001 Durango. I've had a few minor problems but overall I'm happy with it. Every manufacturer has it share of horror stories. At least my durango motor doesn't knock when I start it up!!

You genrally only hear from people that have problems. Those without problems quietly go about enjoying their vehicles or anything else in life.
Most of the problems seem to become magnified because
of how the dealer handles the problem.

Pay Attention!! I think one big problem is that people don't pay enough attention to the little things on their vehicles. Use the darn maintenance schedule in owner's manual for cryin' out loud! Catch small problems before they're big ones. Had my '99 4x4 CC 5.2 auto for about 2 yrs. now. Ball joints repaired under warranty and speed sensor replaced. Am I hard on it? I deliver pizzas for pete's sake!
