Subject: Pulleys Question & Air Conditioner?? IP: Logged
Message: Hi, I have a 98 3.9 v6, and I notice a sound under the hood that sounded like something was kicking on, and then kicking back off I thought it might of been the fan, but upon closer inspection I noticed it was the AC.. when i have the heat on? i looks like the pulley on the AC has some sort of inner puller and outer, the outer spins all the time cause the belt goes around it, and then the inner will kick on for maybe 15-20 sec then kick off for another 30 sec or so, etc etc... is this normal?? like i said i haven't looked at it or anything, im not sure if it does it w/ the heater on off, but ill check tomorrow, why would it be spinning the AC if i have the heat on tho??? anyhow... any feedback will be helpful!! Thanks... Eric.

Message: It si normal for the A/C clutch to engage and disengage for a short time if you have the defrost mode on heater selected. If you're in regular heat mode and it kicks on, some wiring may be crisscrossed.
