hey does anyone else have the same terrible problem of not being able to see anything cause of the mirror/pillar combo, the rain shields things dont help but damn that blind spot is huge, mainly when turning left
??

I bought my truck in 2000 and the first thing I noticed was that huge blind spot in the door mounted mirrors. You can see a car behind you, but if you are being passed, you can't see them once they get in front of your rear bumper until you can catch them in your periphial vision. In less then 24 hours after picking up my truck from the dealer, I was at WalMart buying a set of convex self adhesive mirrors to put on the stockers. I got the 2 inch round ones and mounted them on the door side of the mirror on both doors. No more blind spots. I check the big mirror then check the convex mirrors and it has saved me several times.

I have an 01 QC.
Kinda noticed this, that's why I look to the side, and then the mirror. Looking to the side checks your blind spot. I learned this in 1975, in Drivers Ed. class at my High School.
You act as though it is unique to OUR DAKS! It's not, it's the optical parameters of using a side view mirror.
The self adhesive small mirrors, that check the blind spot are a great idea, inexpensive, and work well! One flat mirror won't do both areas however, and it's NOT unique to the DAK!

You guys need to learn how to correctly adjust your side mirrors if you have that big of a blind spot! I have 2000 QC and have no blind spot on either side! In fact before they are out of my rearview mirror I pick them up on the door mounted mirror and they are still there when I pick them up with the ol peripheral vision.
This is a common mistake many people make as very people have ever been taught how to CORRECTLY position their mirrors to remove the blind spots!

Er, I think the original post was about the FRONT blind spot caused by the mirrors/A pillars and worsened by having vent shades.

thanks man i am talking about the front blind spot, blind spot behind how could there be with the size of the mirror you see everything, yes like Rrrockhound pointed out i mean you cant see through the mirror, ie. pulling forward and to the left, that blind spot

Yeah, I too noticed that first thing when I got my Dak. You really have to watch for pedestrians when turning left in town. I've learned to adjust and just automatically lean one way or the other to look around the pillar on a left.

I've got a 98 Durango and had the huge mongo 6x9 mirrors and installed vent shades. I swapped in a pair of 2003 mirrors I bought on Ebay off a Dakota and it helped quite a bit. The bolted right up but I had to solder on my electrical plug to make them work. They are 5x7 and are mounted closer to the door. The back blind spot is a little worse but the front blind spot is better. But that still won't help the manly heavy duty pillars they put on these things. I've only hit 3 pedestrians.
