I know I'm not the only one asking about this, but I'm having a hellova time deciding.

I've been given prices on Bridgestone Dueller DM-Z2 ($670 for tires, mounting, tax, the works) and also Toyo Open Country A/T ($600 same deal). Both tires are 235/70-R15. I've been doing research but I can't decide which is the better tire.

I've read on here that the Bridgestones are awesome, but I haven't heard anything about these Toyos.

Any suggestions? The snow flies here in a week, maybe two..so I gotta get moving on this. Thanks.

I've got the Duelers mounted on my stock wheels and ready to go, but I haven't run them yet. I also did a lot of reading before purchasing, but ultimately went with my brother's recommendation. He had run the Duelers on his Highlander and said they were awesome.
Either way, you will be much better off with a dedicated winter tire than with any all-season tire.

FWIW, I've also heard the Bridgestones are the best. No first hand experience, but a friend of mine is getting a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks (sp?). He did his research and they came out on top.

I have the winter duellers mounted on my 15" sport wheels on my quad cab 2x4. Great investment IMHO.

This winter will be my second with these tires. Last year we (Toronto, Canada) had a surprise snow storm and I still had my R/T wheels and RSA's on and OMG, what a nightmare! Having winter tires gave me confidence while driving and I felt safe hauling around family and friends.

Drive safe

I'm in the Windsor, Ontario area. We've had some very light flurries..no accumulation. We just aren't cold enough here yet....heck, we're supposed to hit 60 degrees this weekend, but then drop like a stone next week.

The Toyo have more space between the treads, but I've been reading about Bridgestones superior traction on ice, snow and even water....

My stock tires are pretty much worn out..only 65000Km, and they are hellish in rain....sliding, fish-tailing, spinning under hardly any gas...

I want tires that I can keep on my sport wheels and get new, bigger 'summer' rims and tires...and use my sports for winter only.

I don't think that the Blizzaks come in very large sizes, because I think for trucks bridgestone recommends the Winter Duelers.

Winter Duelers definately! But don't expect more than two seasons out of them. Because of their soft compound, they wear out fast. Make sure you rotate them every 3000 miles or they will start to chop. Other than that, the best snow tires I have ever had.

Winter Duelers are truck tires, with (I think) more robust construction to handle the sometimes-heavier loads we put in our trucks. The more-open block design will do a lot better in mud and crud but might be more noisy.
Another tire I have been hearing a lot about is the Michelin Arctic Alpin, but I believe it's a passenger car tire (like the Blizzak) and mushier. Most tire dealers keep pushing me toward the Alpins, but the Winter Duelers look more business-like.
Although many here in the Pacific Northwest are expecting a dry winter, I'm not taking any chances (we ski a lot). I'll be getting a set of those bitchin black American Racing steel wheels for my winters (maybe I'll mount my Scorpion Zeros on 'em after winter).

The Duellers are going on this morning. Not a minute too soon either, the snow started flying today!
Heres hopin' they'll hold up for at least 2 winters. I'm thinking of getting some Enkei RT6's and some Pirelli Scorpion Zeros for the spring/summer/fall and then go back to my winter tires. That way all I have to worry about is changing rims and not changing tires and rims and all that hoopla.

Thanks for all the advice.

I don't know if it's allowed in your area but I personally prefer real studded snows. My brother has the artic alpines on his two cars and they are good snow and ice tires but still not as good a real studs and they don't last as long. Plus they cost about twice as much as a good studded snow. I paid $58 each mounted and balanced for 235/75/15's BdGoodrich winter studded from Costco and put them on $25 each steel rims. I run the same tires on our AWD grand caravan and that thing in the winter is only limited by how much snow builds up in front of it's low front airdam. Stopping is great as well. You can out stop almost every other car with good ABS and studded snows, so getting rear ended becomes a real problem.

I don't think they allow studs around here because of the roads. I drive on paved roads everywhere, they just don't plow very often so the snow and ice really build up quickly. I'll see how these work.
