Subject: Advice: Leaks

Message:
I'm looking at buying a 94 4WD V8 (5.2). Price is decent but inspection found an oil leak (small, I think) at the intake gasket and a slow gear oil leak somewhere on the transfer case. Estimates for repair are about 2 hours labor for the intake gasket and 1 - 3 for the transfer case (depending on whether they have to pull it). I'd like some advice: how serious are these? Are they indications of other problems down the road? Thanks!!

The intake leak sounds minor, if it is from the front or real seals these are prone to leaking, especially with an M1 intake. As for the transfer case if it does not make any bad noises, engages into both 4-hi and 4-lo and the level still good and in good shape I think this is a non-issue as well. But this can also be a great bragaining poing on the pricve of the truck...
