I removed all the decals from my Dakota. The Dodge decal on the tailgate came off easier than the others. Use a hair dryer to warm the area up a bit and then use your fingernail to peel them off. If there is any adhesive left, use some Goo Gone or Goof Off to remove it. Simple as that. Congrats on the new purchase!

The DODGE decal on the tailgate came off the first day I picked it up. I just gently pulled the stickers off, no prob. Didn't mind it, just like the plain look on the tailgate.

Good advice though about heating it if needed.

The picture of the truck above is at the Shippers waiting for the Agriculture Inspection to ship it back last friday (can't have no dirt on it to ship it, might bring bugs). We leave here the end of Nov to spend thanks giving in San Antonio, and then head off for Colorado Springs. I hope Dec 1 my truck is ready to pick up in Dallas, I miss it already.

The easiest and fastest way i've found so far is to get an eraser wheel from a local auto body supplyer. It's a rubber wheel that goes into a drill or air tool and you just touch the spinning edge to the sticker. And best off all it's safe for clear coats. All you have to do is hit the area with some water afterwards to get rid of the rubber shavings. Great for really old stickers.

I also removed all of my decals. Went to my local dealer and bought the plastic/chrome letters for the 2003 RAM. $33 and some change. I think it is a nice touch. You pay good money for a nice truck and they put STICKERS on? Hmmmmmmm!

Hey guys,
Anyone removed the stickers after a few miles? Just curious if I'm going to have noticeable 'clean' spots. I'd like to remove them, but I have a black dakota with 37K on her. Paint's still in good shape but I'd like to know if anyone else had done it later in their dakota's life. ; )

Thanks a million.

for7v8: I used to have a '99 Forest Green Dakota (before I got the '02 Silver) and I took the decals off pretty late. I'd say after about 30K. You could see a ghost of the decals in the sunlight, but that's about it. No one noticed it at all until after I pointed it out, and in some cases they didn't notice even after I did point it out. I don't know with Black though, that's a pretty tough color to judge.

I removed mine at 20,000 and no problems. There was little fading. Nothing a good orbital buffer couldn't handle.

Mine came off quite by accident......the sprayer at the carwash took care of some of the right side so I fininshed the sticker removal when I got home.

I recently changed my red decals to silver on my 97. When I removed the old decals, you couldn't tell at all where the old ones were. No ghosting at all. I was actually kinda pissed because I didn't mark were they were. I just figured that the paint on my BLACK truck would have faded at least enough so I could see where to put the new decals. I think I got them pretty close, but I did get a couple of the letters crooked. I guess I will have to try again.

do you guys think there would be any ghosting on a white '97 with 60,000 miles? i like the no-badging look but dont want to see any marks. also my badges arent the stickers, its a plastice that has a crystal carban-fiber look(if that made any since) and i have the V-8 emblem on the front fenders are those just glued on or not?

Any tips from dak'rs who have removed these raised letters ?

There are lost of postings but most seem to be the Sport lettering.. decals.

tekmon... I have heard that the best way to go is fishing line. Use a "sawing" motion back and forth, starting at the edge of the emblem. The fishing line will cut through the rubber/adhesive backing on the emblem. You'll have some clean-up to perform that is about equivalent to removing a decal to get the remaining adhesive off. If you don't damage the emblem, I might want to take it off your hands. Let me know.

routesixtysixer -> Fishing line I can deal with.

What type line is best:
standard mono, fluorocarbon, copolymir, braided nylon, spiderwire ...?
What brand :Berkley, Stren, Maxima...?
What Lp test ?

Which emblem are you interested in, they are each individual letters ?

Or as my son says "cathcing", because we always catch um, fishing is for rookies that don't catch.

Matt,

It's a Sir Michaels. I had to get a metal one due to the first Fiber Glass Roll Pan disintegrated on the Autobahn at 135 mph. It still needs a little alignment, it sets a little low on the right side.

Kota 318,

I really don't think you will have a problem on a white truck. Once you take them off, do a good fine polish to about 6" out from where the old stickers was, and come back and use a good quality wax, it should be OK. Generally the ghosting happens on reds, blacks and blues.

There is no way to predict if there will be ghosting, depends on how much UV, sunlight, the paint was exposed to, and how well the paint around the emblem was kept.

Mine is white also, a '98, in Florida's sunshine. I'll be pulling the tailgate letters off in the next couple weeks and see.
