I want to replace the stock speakers in my truck. It's a 2000 regular cab dakota, with 4 speakers in it. I'm sure someone has done this, so my question is....What size are the door and the two behind the seat speakers respectively and how hard is it to get to them to change, I.E. any special problems or tricks. Thanks

Hey, whats up? Welcome to the world of Dakota Audio upgrading. Anyways, according to crutchfield, your front door speakers are 6 3/4" and your rears are 5 1/4". The rears aren't too bad to find an exact fit, but the fronts can be tricky to find a decent set in a direct fit. Keep in mind that many GM vehicles use 6 3/4" speakers, so anything that says "GM/Chrysler oversize compatible" or something like that should fit with little or no modification. I have the Clarion SRS1623 6 1/2" Components in my front doors. They came with the adaptor plate to fit a 6 3/4" mount, but I had to drill new holes. The stock speakers are mounted to a bracket, which in turn mounts to the door panel by way of three screws. The new components used a 4 screw mount. I also had to drill a 1 1/8" hole to mount my tweater in the sail panel. So anyways, you really shouldn't have a hard time with the fronts. There are 4 screws holding the plastic door panel on and 1 holding on your sail panel (inside of the side view mirror). As far as the rear speakers, good luck. You'll have to remove most of your interior trim pieces rear of the door frames!! It isn't all too horrible, just take your time and be patient. BTW, if you haven't bought your speakers yet, I would truthfully suggest crutchfield.com due to the customer service. The prices aren't the lowest, but you'll get harnesses so you won't have to cut your factory wires, any adaptor brackets needed, plus a really detailed set of instructions in case I forgot anything. No, I don't work for them, but I have bought almost everything in my truck from them, stereo-wise. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me at FastRT6Dakota@aol.com. Good luck.
