How long do spark plugs normally last.

My wifes 99 Pontiac Montana owners manual says the spark plugs last 100,000 miles and I can't believe it, BUT, with a transverse mounted 3.4 V6, I can't even see the three on the back side and this is not the old 70s panel van where you could take off the center console and access the engine.

BTW, my minivan makes more HP at the flywheel (185) than the Dakota V6.

This is the AC Delco URL, even they say 100k? Can it be true?

Today's engines are pretty efficient. Transverse mounted engines are always fun to work on. I have a Dodge Caravan that's the same way. You have to get to the plugs by going underneath the car and reaching up between the firewall and the engine. Having a lift makes it a lot easier.

I looked at AC Delcos site further and they recommend changing the RapidFire Platinum plugs that came in the van every 50k miles. They also say to check the gap every 20k. If I am going to expend the energy to pull them, then new ones are going in.
