I really don't know where to go up there, we were just gonna go and drive around until we find something. I've been to Tuggers too, but only when there was some snow on the ground. Sleds everywhere.

Ask around at Tugger's. Just be careful if they suggest, and or, point you to the "Gulf". Some stretches of it can be pretty wicked, unless you know the trail.

I'm mostly into snowmobiling myself (my friend has a "camp" around the corner from Tugger's).

It's actually the Deer river's gorge. Here's a write up on the trail:

Inman Gulf Trail (Intermediate Skill, No Beginners, 1.7 miles)
Cut by Forest Ranger Dave Larrabee, with help from Bill Blodgett, this trail runs along the edge of Inman Gulf and through some hilly sections. Scenic Rainbow Falls may be seen on the north side of the rim; gulf Stream courses along the bottom of Inman Gulf. Be cautious when crossing Williams Truck Road because it is a main snowmobile route. In summer, five parking areas along Williams Truck Road allow people to choose loops of different length.

Have Fun....

I went snowmobiling at Tug Hill last February. Stayed in those little cabins behind Tugger's. Nice place, probably coming back this winter. I live near Niagara Falls, NY.

99Blkdak, some are just local roads that are closed to normal traffic during the winter.

The Inman Glide is the Gulf.

I'm not sure about Stillwater resevior,BlackDak02.

Believe it or not, in the 20+ years I've been going up there, I've never wet a line once. I mostly go there for the deer hunting and snowmobiling.

Fubar512, if you ever get a chance go in the spring to Stillwater. Topwater lures off the points, the average smallie is 4 lbs. Unbelivable action!! I used to trailer my boat up there but there is a facility that rents boats also.

They allow 4-wheeling in that Tug Hill area?

Update for you, 99blkdak.

My buddy went four wheeling last weekend. He says the Deer River was so high due to run-off, that the Gulf was flooded out...they had to turn around at the midway point.

BlackDak02, thanks for the tip on Stillwater. I just might give it a try next spring.

Thanks for the update, we still want to go wheeling, maybe we will find somewhere else to go. I have snowmobile maps for the entire Tug Hill Area, probably about 5 or 6 of them. I'm sure we can figure out somewhere to go.

Amsoil Interceptor Synthetic 2-Cycle Oil - Amsoil
IP: Logged

Message:

Snowmobiles are expensive machines!!!

When a person invests thousands of dollars in a machine it only makes sense that they should invest in the best 2-cycle oil available to protect that machine.

Performance benefits, including dependable starts, improved throttle response, maximum power and reduced plug fouling and carbon deposits are also reasons to use AMSOIL 2-Cycle Oil.

AMSOIL is the "official two-cycle oil of the World Snowmobile Association". You can't get any better than that.

A word of caution is in order when ATVing anywhere in Northern New York State. There are no posted trails through the woods which are open to ATVs on public land and this includes use of the river corridors like Inman Gulf and the Deer River. In addition to public land, these rivers cross through multiple private landowners who are concerned about damage being done to these fragile areas. As the agency in charge of public lands, the Department of Environmental Conservation posts very few roads through state reforestion areas as open to ATVs. These roads are clearly marked as open. No signs - the road is not open to ATVs. The Barnes Corners cross country ski trails are not designated for motor vehicles. However, many town roads in the Tug Hill area are clearly posted as open to ATVs.
