To all of those who own a 97+ club cab dakota-how do you like your dakota's as far as interior room? Can you haul child seats, people, luggage, etc. in them alright or is it pretty cramped? I currently have a regular cab dakota and just need more room. I've never been inside a cc, just looked at them from the outside. I'm trying to decide if I should go the suv route or if a club cab dakota would fit the bill for now. Thanks for your input.

I have one. Small kids can fit in the back. Teens may fit but not comfortable. Adults are out of the question. My little brother sits back ther sometimes but he has to put one across the seat and on on the floor behing the driver. Sometimes I wish I had the Quadcab to fit people in the back. As far as driver comfort I love it.

Don't expect to put normal height people (adults) back there. It's mostly good for extra cargo area. When I have 2 other people riding with me, whoever gets stuck sitting in the back usually sits across the seats. No real room otherwise. Enough room for luggage and things for 2 on a trip. Can't comment on the child seats. You can always look at a QC as well if you want a more functional seating area.

I consider mine extra leg roo, room for a sub and extra storage, it is quicker and easier to have the person just sit between the two seats in front for me but then again I always have a small tv in the back of my truck ( long story)

My buddy 6'5 255 has rode in the back of my 99 CC, not too roomy but if you put your legs sideways it works.

Small kids and luggage would fit in the back, but on problem is you have to readjust your seats every time you move them to get the kids or cargo out of the back, If carrying people was my concern, I would get the quad cab with the 5.9L and a 3.92lsd or a Durango, which is great for hauling people, gear, and other stuff all together, besides it is still half a Dakota!

I have 3 small children, 3 yrs, 8 yrs, 9 yrs. All three ride in the back seat with the 3 yr old in a car seat with no problem. My son would be a little cramped behind me but does ok behind mom.
We have a mazda protege' and my son will elect the truck over the car any time (I think it's a speed and power thing).

Like the others have said, if you need to put people back there, they need to be small people (midgets?) or come equipped with removable legs. Access to the rear seat is also a problem because Dodge doesn't put doors back there (unlike the Ram).

If you think you might have to haul people on a semi-routine or routine basis, spend the extra bucks for a quad cab. Very comfy in the back seat of those. Dodge did those right...a comfortable seat at a reasonable height with a comfortable backrest angle. I didn't get a QC because I'm single with no kids and don't ever plan on subjecting humans to the back seat of my truck. A dog maybe, but no people.

I agree with what the others have said. I used to carry luggage back there but finally popped for an ARE fiberglass tonneau cover and put everythinng back there. About the only time I have someone back there is when they want to sleep and stretch across all the seats on a long trip. I would not want to sit back there myself for very long. If you can give up the bed space and want the room, go with the Quad cab which I hear have a lot of room in the back.

If the passenger sits on the dash the rear seat can be comfortable. Granted my seat sits higher due to my custom sub enclosure but they are relatively comfortable non the less... I wouldn't plan on a long drive like this though.. But it is great for dry storage space and the front seats are much more comfortable than the RC due to the added room for more angle...

I don't have a backseat. Since I bought the truck it's had 3 different stereos in all consisting of walls.

Yeah I agree with everyone, not much room back there.
@ Dan Gruber's midget remark!
My rear seat is angled up higher also because I put a stealthbox under it, dunno, a midget's feet might not touch the floor now.

The club cab is great for extra legroom for me and to carry small items when the weather's too nasty to put them in the bed.

Kids might do OK in the back, but I don't think I hate any adult enough to make them sit back there on a regular basis. Like the others have said, if your concern is carrying people, go with the QuadCab.

With the leg room for the front passenger being pretty good if they move the seat up a hair it works pretty good for teens and smaller adults.

My family has been on the 3 hour trips in the truck to go Duning at Pismo and its not to bad but now that my oldest is 14 he is getting a little more cramped so we have stopped with the road trips in the truck now.

With the shorter bed on the quads it was not really an option.

The back holds my Golf clubs pretty good though!

Just to repeat the above comments; For light cargo & short people (small kids) my Club Cab is great, however when we go as a family ( 2 adults + 2 boys 18 & 14) we take the Quad Cab. I have the best of both worlds! (now I need a 4X4)
To be sure, go to a dealer & look at both & the Durango ( take all the kids with you)

For the price of a durango I found the Grand Cherokee to be much quicker, nicer and ride better than the Durango... Jut my feeling though... But this is why I bought the jeep, and she is averaging over 19MPG with the 4.7, but she does have a lighter foot than me.
