Subject: Pinging gone!! but now it Ticks!?

Message:
Some of you may remember my previous posts on pinging. I am happy to say that I beleive it is FINALLY fixed. My engine had some bad pinging even on '93 octane with the Autolite 3923 plugs installed and the PCM updated as far as it could go.

After the dealer tore the front half of the motor apart to find that there was nothing wrong (chain wise) they found that the trans computer could be updated. They performed the update for shift points (I think) and the pinging seems to be gone - even on '87 octane!! However I am keeping in mind the the pinging went away for about 3 days after they updated my PCM the first time and then it came back (don't ask me why).

The problem now is that the engine is making a ticking noise when cold. The noise seems to be coming from the front and bottom of the engine. It can be heard best right in front of the radiator. I looked at some posts on ticking but I'm not sure this is the same ticking. The ticking can be heard at idle and gets faster as you give it more gas. Eventually (after about 10 miles) it goes away. Any ideas on what this could be?

Any help is appreicated!!

Thanks!

I Agree With --^ It Might Be the Valves Or Maybe Something Simple As Ticking Fuel Injectors witch is pretty common.

Eallan,
If I remember right, your truck is new. I know you don't want to but you might have to take it back. Maybe you could try a different dealer. It definately should not be making that noise.
Lifters will make the ticking, then go away when oiled but usually in an older vehicle. I think they already changed you injectors.

handi2 -

I currently have 25K on my vehicle. I bought it used with 4K on it. They did just change my injectors. But the GOOD NEWS - - The ticking is GONE!! I don't know what it was but it seems to be gone now! Let's hope that the ticking and the pinging both stay away.

Thanks to everyone for their help and comments.

Something you might keep in mind, If you have A small exhaust leak at the manifold, you can hear it sound like A tick and when the engine warms up it will go away.
