Wow, that looks exactly like my old truck, same year too. when I traded it in a year ago - the only rust I had was a little on the front fender. It looked exactly like yours. I agree that is BS, but so is the transmission that took a crap at 50k on my truck. that cost $950 for a rebuild.

That is complete BS. I had the door shell on my 94' replaced due to it getting hooked on the bumper of a Suburban and being bent backwards. My local dealer did all the bodywork and the repaint. After about a year the door started to sag as the hinge began to tear from the door shell. I was given two options: reweld the hinge and wait for it to fall off or replace the shell. I told them how funny it would be if my door just fell off one day, but decided not to risk it and went with a new shell. THis cost me $450 which I thought was really high at the time. They rehung the door, repainted the door, and repainted the fender that was scratched by the door. They also replaced the trim tape as it had been damaged. I hope this helps and sounds like a more reasonable price.

If you have a 7 year/100,000 rust warranty, you're not going to have much of a leg to stand on if your truck has 120,000 miles on it. That exceeds the warranty by 20,001 miles.

I think i'd check around on the cost of that door and how much it would cost to get it done at a body shop. Maybe go out on a limb and check the bone yard.

Its begining to look like they will not help any on this.

6 year old vehicle with rust.....

Does the milage really matter when it comes to rust... I propse the rust started well before 100,000 mile and I just could not see it.

Yes this could be your TRUCK So If I were you I would check all welded joints and report any rust as soon as it develops... If there is rust but no failure, Dodge should FIX IT or record that there is rust.

Well this truck is a time bomb waiting to happen,, First a rusted exhaust manifold bolt, now a Door hinge...

Things like that just do not usually fail.

I keep coming back to the point I fix the problem I create, Dodge should fix the problems they create.

I will have to pay to get a back plate welded and the door temperary repaired...

Thanks for all the replies guys...

Before gettting a new door put on..... I took the fender off to get the door off and rewelded the hinge. Turns out there were some cold welds in the front portion of the hinge. The weld the factory did on the small portion of the door hinge was not even bonded. It looked like that allowed the hinge to rock and eventualy break.

The process took about 8 Man hours.

something to be said for rustproofing?

a shot every couple of years would have prevented that.

Get a door at the wrecker.
