So I just thought I would ask current owners what they thought of their 2nd gen dakotas. My s10 was wrecked and I need to find a new ride. Looking at a 96 Dakota Sport with 74k miles for 3400. Thing is it only has the 2.5 four popper. Anyone with this motor or this era truck have any complaints or warnings? (Besides the lack of power) Just wanted to get opinions from the horses mouth
Thanks

I have the 2.5L in a 98, though it's a magnum I don,t think they're much different. Anyhow I like it, I mean it's o/k for a 4 banger, it's got good power for what it is. And get this 101,000 mi. with no probs and I beat the piss out of it. Work truck, I have even hauled a trailer with a saturn on the back twice with it. almost double the tow cap.

mod's- open air element, cat removed, IAT relocated, msd 6a acccel super coil and accel 8mm wires,

Well I've got a GenII, but it's not a 4cyl. One thing that I dislike about it was the seats wear really bad on the drivers side... I've had a few GenII's and they all had wore out in the same spot. Aside from that, the only thing is the vent holes on the doors... They screwed up the same thing as the S-10's... And it could have been so easily avoided!! There are only two vent holes one on each end of the doors... There "SHOULD" be atleast three holes, there need to be one in the middle! Otherwise salt (and what not) builds up in there and they rust.. so if you don't have rust on the doors, drill atleast one more small hole in the "bottom" of the door to vent that crap out!
Great Truck other than that...
Definatly worth $3000 to $4000 depending on condition!
