Subject: 45RE Fluid/Filter Replacement

Message:

Can anyone who has done a fluid/filter replacement on a 45RE please post how many quarts of ATF were required to refill after the work? That stuff is expenseive and I don't want to buy more than I need...

Also, if anyone has a good source for discount mail order OEM parts I would appreciate it.

Thanks -

I just did mine. It took 6 1/2 quarts to refill. I pulled the pan and let it drain over night. You can buy the ATF+4 in gallon jugs for a few cents cheaper.

I got my filters from Carquest. It was about $18 for both filters. They are ATP brand.

I measuered 6 out of the unit and it took 8 to fill it back up. Remember that you must drive it at HWY speeds for 20 miles to get accurate reading.I have checked the level of the fluid at least 12 times after driveing for 3 hours at hwy sppeds and have not been over on my indicator ever. So you can either measure what comes out of it or you can start with 6 and drive it for 20 miles at HWY speeds and then read it and adjust. I purchased my filter's from dealer. The OEM filter are filtran brand. When I changed mine no place had the filter so I was pretty much stuck with OEM as well. My dealer only sell the ATF+4 in gallon jugs. I went with redline C+ATF for my trans and Amsoil universal ATF in my T/case. KatyDak what was the car quest part number for the filter kit??? That is a great price!!!!
