A good freind of mine works at a dodge dealership. He tells me that for the 2004 model year the Dakota will have a new body style and the R/T will feature the new hemi engine (in the new body of course). The new hemi looks pretty cool and if this is true I think my '02 R/T may have to go. Does anyone know anything about this or where I can find a pic or more info?

While nobody knows what motors may or may not be availible in 2004 Dakotas, all the insiders are quite sure there is no redesign that would be ready for the 2004 model dakota. There would be most likely be a working concept at this point if there was going to be something completely new for 2004. They will stop building the 2003's and start on the 2004's in the summer of 2003 so that's only 8 months or so. They did have a redesign in the works for both the Dakota and Durango but it would have made the Dakota almost as big as a Ram so while that design change will go forward for the Durango, the Dakota had to go back to the drawing board, I wouldn't expect a completely new Dakota until at least 2005. The Best parts is that the redesign was going to be haevy and ulgy, at least now there is the possibility they will put the Hemi in the lighter, nicely styled current Dakota. They have got to put those motors somewhere! They have the capability to make almost 500,000 hemis a year, and right now they are only availible in the 2500 and 3500 series Rams which end up being 70% deisel and only 30% gas (the hemi). That only accounts for about 1/4 of the Hemi production. The Rams should get them in the middle of the 2003 model year but there still will be leftovers.
