Subject: What's the round tube behind rear bumber

OK, I know this is probably a stupid question but what is the round tube behind the rear bumper? Is it a rear stabilizer bar? Or is it something with a tow package?

I ask because I think I've seen some smaller tow hitches that hook to the bottom of the bumper and also hook to that tube? Is that right or am I just stupid?

If you have a Quad Cab it has something to do with the flexing of the truck bed.

Someone else will reply with the "rest of the story".

No idea what the tube is/would be unless it is bolted to the frame and has a 2 inch square hole in the middle of it, then it would be a reciever hitch. ;-)

4.7l 4x4 QC I asked the dealer about the round bar thing, they didn't know either. Its suspended on springs from each end; must be for something.

Does it have to do with the airbag deployment sensors? Just a thought. I don't know for sure, but it doesn't look structural.

It is a vibration dampener. As far as I know it's only on QC's.

It definately is a vibration dampener. They are used on many vehicles only they are not as apparent as on the Quad. Old Camaro's used to have them behind the tail lights.

OK - I don't feel near as stupid now. Yes I have a quadcab. I noticed this past weekend while tailgating at a football game the guy beside me had a Tahoe and it had one too. Part of his receiver was hooked to it - I think. I didn't lay down on my back to look at it. I'll look closer at the next game.

Dak95 - thanks for your concern. I was wondering what the aquare hole was for :)
