I'm not positive about his...check out the thread 'Is my LSD Working' that I posted a couple weeks ago. One of the guys was talking about a PowerTrax Locking differential...which is even better than a LSD and I think you add this PowerTrax thing to an Open type differential.

I have an LSD, I will never buy an Open again (unless the PowerTrax conversion works for you, then I would keep it in mind!)

Keep us posted!

I beleive the guy answering my thread said they were $400. You figure the LSD option when you buy tacks on $800 (I think it was that) and it covered 2 for my 4wd, then $400 is cool...'cause you also get a locker out of it, not just a LSD. But this is only true if I am correct in my original assumption.

Powertrax is probobly about your cheapest option. They run around $400 and go into the LSD carrier. All you really do is remove the spider gears and replace them with the powertrax unit. THey have some of the best instructions I have evr seen for anything and their tech support seems good, atleasdt that one time I called to double check something. Probably by the time you had a Mopar LSD installed it would be around $800. You can't install the factory LSD yourself without special tools and some prior knowledge. It's one to leave to the pros.

DaveR-
So the PowerTrax installs onto a LSD, not an Open Differential...I thought someone said on another thread it installs on an Open...but I may be wrong. If your right (and I'm not saying your wrong, just double checking) then I want to get one. Did you install yourself? Was it easy, no special tools? Did you do the front diff too (if you got 4wd)?

Thanks

No, you got me. I used the wrong word. Good call. It goes into the standard open diff carrier. I thought it was very strait forward to install. Basicly just take the spider gears out of the carrier. Then put the new parts in in proper sequence. I think there were 4 main parts too it. Anyway, add heavy bearing grease of choice (moble 1) and insert the springs. The grease holds the springs in place. THen install the center pin. Fill the pumpkin back up and do the tests in the manual. Sorry i don't know about the front diff since i am 2wd.

Doing it in a day should be no problom. It took me about an hour and then about 2-3 hours to let the RTV dry enough to refill with fluid. If you do go ahead and get one just read the instructions till you get it. They have pictures and words and it is a very well writen manual. This will lock the wheels together in a strait line. WHen you turn you can hear it trying to lock, but the tourque is too great.
