I hate to say it, but the WRX is quick. And currently it's the only factory rice that I have any respect for. (the Lancer EVO isn't available yet, so don't bring it up)

For some reason the RSX w/ 210HP, 3200Lbs, and a six speed can't reliably outrun a Dakota with 230HP, 4200Lbs, and a five speed. I have no respect there. Go figure :)

The guy couldn't drive because wrx's at my track run low 14's@94mph, and the drives now what thier doing. I would think they are running 9.2-9.4 in the 1/8 because of thier 4000 rpm all wheel drive launches.

Only if the clutch will hold it (if it's a stick). A
friend of mine sold his GMC Typhoon (sp)?
and bought a new WRX. He added a boost
controller and smoked the clutch. Think about
it lots of horsepower and all wheel drive,
somethings gonna give.

I'll keep my '88lx "summer beater"...it runs 13.7
@ 100 w/2.2 60' and 12.7 @ 108 w/ a 75
horse dry shot. BTW it's got 100,000 miles on
it, show me ANY subaru that can do that.

Like I said MOPED (or a fat chick... fun 'till
someone catches you)!

Later,
Lemmers

I like the WRX but doubt a stock automatic will run a 14.1 1/4 mile. The manuals will run that but you have to launch it like it a rental car. I suppose if you rev that auto matic to 4500 rpm and drop it in gear you might get a 14.1 but otherwise high 14's is more what stock, auto wrx owners are getting AT BEST. Some hot days, high tracks, and granny launches give out some 16 sec times on an auto wrx. A more sane (IE: non-3500 rpm clutch dump) on a manual wrx will put it in the mid to high 14's as well. They do respond well to mods but then again so does a R/T, and so will a SRT neon. The SRT neon should beat a WRX on a dry track pretty easilly but then again a dry straight line is definately NOT what the WRX was built for!
PS: the WRX is a turbo Subaru Impreza.

Wrx is a Subaru with 227 Hp, usually a 5sp with all-wheel drive and a European rally heritage. I test drove one and there fun as all-get-out to drive. However, there're really ugly. The sedan looks like a large dung beatle and the wagon looks like a 4/5 scale Gremlin. Your fortunate to have a good looking truck. They have a bit of turbo lag so you gotta dump the clutch around 3 grand to get the 5.9 0-60

I too love the wrx. Seriously thought about buying one but by the time you add all the cool carbon fiber and titanium options your are looking at 30k. Plus it's an "it" car and the dealer has all the hand. Instead am going for 2003 qc 4x4 loaded for less $$$ since its the end of a body style run, and I'll bring tears to the salesmans eyes. They have come down $5k since I looked last year.

Crusty you made a good comparison - WRX and Neon SRT-4. Only I think that would be a good match, depending, of course on the driver of each vehicle. Even though the WRX does have a definite traction advantage, I think the SRT will give it a run for its money. (My opinion) and I know, like Quadman stated, opinions are like .... well you know.

The SRT-4 does have a disadvantage due to it being FWD. From what I've read in many of the import biased magazines, they really like it. It sounds like it's going to be a mean compeditor, even if it's FWD. I think the Soob is a superior racing vehicle, but the Neon is also considerably less and parts are a hell of a lot easier to get a hold of. They each have their own place. But the lil Neon is not to be brushed off as just another Neon.

I don't think drag was what Fuji Heavy Industries had in mind when they designed the WRX. It can do quite well, but that's not where it excels.

Just for arguements sake, I've seen WRX drivers waste SOLO II competitions, but others come in almost last place. How good is the driver.

Ever change the plugs on a WRX? It's fuking hell on those boxster engines. Neon, not so much.

Both have their ups and downs. You gotta weigh them against one another. Both are excellent vehicles in their own right.

I love the WRX but I think the SRT4 is going to blow doors on the WRX. Maybe 0-60 the WRX will give the SRT4 a good run due to its all wheel drive. If you look at the trap speeds of the SRT4 they are as high as 102mph. The WRX is only around 94-95mph. I think once the SRT4 hooks up or on a roll it will kill a WRX.

but we all forgot about how much fun a wrx is! it was born for wrc. motortrend raced it though mud and snow and jumped it numerous times, and it still begged for more. i say take the wrx over the neon because you can keep the stock rims for rally and snow and throw a set of 18" prodrive P1's for the backroads and autox. (never said that the srt-4 wasn't going to be fun either)

I was just looking pretty seriously into a srt-4. They are a good savings compared to a WRX and the magazine tests have them at best even in the 1/4 mile. The slowest srt-4 times are equal to the fastest WRX times (about 14.2) The best srt-4 times destroy the worst WRX times (13.9 compared to high 14's. If you don't abuse your WRX with a 3000 rpm clutch dump then you don't get 14.1's stock, the Neon does get the 14.1's and you have to baby the launch to keep any traction. The added price of the WRX would put a limited slip on the SRT-4 and probably a couple of Mopar "stages" as well. Then the comparision would be over. The awd wrx does excel in real world crappy weather handling though, and is really nice to live with on a daily basis. The new Evo is supposed to suck in the daily grind, and who knows how diluted and expensive it will be when it finally shows up in the US for sale. Then subie will just pump up the WRX with a STi model to compete. Isn't the free market wonderful?
