Subject: a/c compressor interchangability
IP: Logged

Message:
Last night the compressor died on me so I bought a shorter belt to get me buy till I can find a compressor. Looks like the bearing shot craps or something. I had some dust like material all over the place and it stunk realy bad.

My question is what years of compressors will interchange with my 97? It is a 3.9 if it matters. Also if you know of someone that has one for a reasonable price let me know.
As always, thanks for your help.

Jeep 4.0L comps are not interchangable, bolt centers are 92/87 mm. All MY94 and newer AN/DN/BR/DR comps on 3.9/5.2/5.9s that have 127/115 mm centers only had variations in oil charge amounts and year to year internal changes. You can use any of them, just need to make sure the oil amount is per the original label.

Jeep KJ comps won't work on newer AN/DN/DR with 4.7, ports are different.

WellUsed,

Yes, your clutch failed but this is usually secondary to internal failure. Drain the oil and if it's dark grey to black, you should get the system flushed.

Hope this helps.

Gibson Dual Sport, AirForce One air intake, Jet II, IAT, TPS, when are we gonna see some real parts??!!

Lawerence, Thanks for the great info. I will check the oil charge amount and make sure it is the same.

IntenseDak39, do you know the oil charge amount on yours? Also, how many miles are on it?

well i just know that my brothers 98 jeep wrangler with a 4.0 has the exact same compressor.

i took the compressor off at about 40,000 miles. I never had it recharged or needed service on it. i ran it during the winter (as suggested by high performance mopar) to keep the o-rings oil. When i had the shop drain the system it was carring all 2 pounds of freon (or was is 2.5 i dont remember,it was whatever the tag on my truck said, it was awhile back). i have kept it bagged up since i took it off to keep from dirt getting into it.
