OK, here's my problem turn the A/C or heater on and everything is ok until you start giving it more than half throttle the air goes up to the defroster. I have been told this is a vaccuum problem but cannot find where the vaccuum lines enter the cab through the firewall, to test them to see if they are ok or whether it is a bigger problem. It is a 92 Dakota 3.9 by the way.

Definitely a vacuum leak.

The vacuum line enter the cab thru the firewall where the expansion valve is. Follow the suction line back from the compressor to the firewall, you'll see an 1/8" black plastic tube where the TXV sticks thru the hole in the firewall.

maybe normal. the mode doors(which direct the airflow) are run off vaccuum. default position is the defroster vents. when you accelerate manifold vaccuum is low and the doors switch back to the defroster. may also be a vaccuum leak, or low engine vaccuum problem.

Had this same prob on my '99 last year. Apparently the vac line riunning into the cab disconnected. Not sure if it is the same on the '92, but if you look under the glove box(lay down face up on the passenger side floorboard) you should see it if the same....just plug it back in. That would be the best case scenario. Good luck...drove me batty for a good week.

Thanks, it's been driving me nuts since February when I bought it. It's not so bad in the winter but it kind of sucks in 95 degree heat to have the A/C blowing at the windshield.
