i can see why most people(including myself) dont like to use the search engine on this site... cause it pops up with crap that doesnt even have what i was looking for in it.... the reason i asked this question (which seems to have been talked about ALOT) is cause of a response that i got when i emailed RP about it

"Your transmission requires Mopar Type 7176 fluid (ATF+3) therefore we do not recommend using our Dexron/ Mercon type Max ATF fluid. At this time Royal Purple does not offer a Type 7176 fluid equivalent.

Thank you"

BlueCC00RT,

I'll list one thread that might help. On this thread you will find discussion about Royal Purple (and Amsoil), but the reason I'm giving this link is because it will give you email contacts of some Dak owners that have actually been using Royal Purple as they mention in their posts that they are RP customers.

http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/gen/6382.html

I would also like to ask you to consider Amsoil Universal ATF. There are many threads on this website that discusses this product. let me know if I can help.

Dr.D says :

Yep .... That is exactly why I did not use it in my 42RE transmission, I am using the AMSOIL Multi-Purpose Synthetic ATF.
It does meet and or exceed the requirements of ATF+3 and ATF+4.

BlueCC00RT,

What you really need to be concerned about is ... Will Royal Purple repair your transmission if Royal Purple is proven to have caused a failure in your transmission? AMSOIL will !

The ultimate solution :
Sell the Royal Purple to someone who drives a Ford or a Chevy and then contact Steven (Amsoil Sponsor) and ask him about preferred customer pricing, I paid $65.40 (plus a little freight and tax) for 12 qts. of AMSOIL ATF.

In regards to fluid change in the 42RE transmission. I want to switch to a muti-purpose ATF and by just dropping the pan I know I don't get most of the fluid out of the tranny. So what I'm wondering is should I be concerned about mixing the dealer fluid with this after market product.
Any Knowledge would be great
