What is the easiest route to access the thermostat? Seems like a lot of frame in the way from underneath and I can really only access the top bolt from above.

This sparkplug/Coil on top setup is pretty basic correct? I just need to be careful removing the coils off each plug and its the same old plug changeout after that right? Unscrew, pull, and rescrew new ones in? Carefully put coils back on and screw in place?

Did mine this weekend (2001, 4.7L). Its not difficult, just messy. Access is from below. Remove the plastic splash guard panel and you can get to the two 8MM bolts which hold the water outlet on the block. I used aan 8MM ratcheting wrench to remove both bolts. make sure the engine is totally cold and have a bucket ready to catch the antifreeze which will drain out. Just crack the bolts and let it run into the bucket. You can either reuse or discard the antifreeze as you wish. After it finishes draining out, remove the bolts and housing. remove and replace the thermostat making sure that you line up the gasket notch. Then reinstall and torque the bolts to 15 Ft Lbs. Then remove the bleed plug on the block inlet and refill the antifreeze at the radiator cap. After the bleed hole shows full of antifreeze, top off the radiator and recap. Then add antifreeze to the overflow reservoir as necessary. start the engine and drive away after checking for leaks. Check your overflow level several times after the engine has cooled down after separate runs. My 180 degree unit keeps it at or slightly above the first temp line. Good luck!

Plugs are easy and you have the right approach. On the 4.7 you may have to temporarily move a few lines and wires to gain clearance, but no big deal. Unscrew the coil and remove; remove old plug; install new plug after setting the proper gap;torque to 20 Ft Lbs.; replace coil and screw; start it up after doing this 8 times.
