Hey all, I just put in my order for my 2001 Dakota. Its a Flame Red Club cab. 4.7L Automatic. Power and deluxe conv. groups, sport plus package. Tire and handling group. Sliding rear. 3.92 lim. slip rearend. I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with a similar combo. Also, does anyone know of any cheap/free upgrades? I'm taking the cat-back system off of my 2000 3.9L and switching it to the 4.7L, so thats covered.

Well, don't want to frown on your purchase, and congrats, but yeah, i've had problems. But I'm hopin my probs are a one-of type of thing. Apparently I got a bad rod bearing, for whatever reason, and it blocks oil passage into one of the cylinders. No oil is bad, FYI.. heehee.. dealer took the oil pan off yesterday and looked at it before the rebuild was scheduled, and decided there was just no reason to dig into that engine. Next thursday theres a new short block arriving w/my name on it.. Engine runs like a sun of a gun after it warms up in the mornings.. I mean that is a first class truck. But the damage is done already to mine. RIP, 2000 4.7, bring on number 2! the chrysler warranty is doin a fine job so far, btw.
As far as mods... just look around the performance board... you can really milk that engine..
Enjoy!!!!

Just a couple of problems, and only one that detracts from my enjoyment of the truck...

1. My ball joints are popping. Heard of others having this problem. Not a big deal. Will have them replaced soon.

2. The driver's seat mounts creak. Not a big deal. If I loosen and then re-tighten them periodically, it stops.

3. The problem that bugs me: a rear-end vibration from 40-50 mph. Dealer has done the following, and has not isolated the problem: replaced rear brakes; replaced rear diff fluid and added a "friction modifier"; replaced all four tires; checked for vibration with wheels and tires from another dakota; checked for vibration with rear drive disconnected; checked with front drive disconnected; replaced transmission fluid. I'm currently waiting for a second visit by a factory service tech. My personal guesses on this issue: a u-joint was installed incorrectly and has worn, causing the vibration; the driveshaft somehow got out of balance; the rear diff internals were not installed properly and have worn irregularly.

Aside from the vibration problem, I love the truck. Would I buy another? I'll get back to you if or when the vibration is fixed.

Mods: I love my gibson single cat-back exhaust, and I like my airaid filter, but I'm waiting for the K&N kit due out this summer to see if I want to try that one insted of keeping the airaid.
