Well it looks like there are some good quality hydrocracked petroleum motor oils out there.They provide a base stock with much fewer impurities than ordinary solvent-refined petroleum.They offer stability and resistance to oxidation similar to synthetic and at lower cost.It might be an option for those looking for something better than ordinary dino without the high cost of synthetics.Hydrocracked petroleum may not be equal to synthetic,but it maybe the next best thing.

Castrol Syntec, Walmart Brand Synthetic Tec 2000, Quaker State , Penzoil Synthetic, Exxon are all Hydro Craked oils marketed as Synthetic. Soon all oils will have to be either synthetic or Hydro-cracked to pass the next API rateing. The hydro-craked oils are better but they still can not match true synthetics! Their are several grades of Hydro-cracked oil base stocks.
