Just saw a commercial re the 2002 midsize Trailblazer. Being touted as the most powerful midsize truck (270hp). Anyone know performance specs? How does it stack up against the Dak? I don't want to be beaten at the next traffic light by a stock Chevy truck...

The trailblazer is an odd looking suv. Not sure about the 0-60 time. I do know it has an inline 6.

It's a 4.2L inline 6. 270 hp, 275 tq. fairly impressive considering their own 4.8 v8 makes the same hp. Motortrend hinted they were pretty fast but didn't say they beat any of the v8 suv's they compared it to.

Im actually impressed with chevy, for once they have decided to put some horsepower into their SUV's. The inline 6 pumps out 270hp, with is darn impressive. Probably fast too, but i doubt it will take a durango R/T or a dakota with an 8 in it. Unfortunalty for Chevy, its ugly as all hell. Too bad.

maybe chevy will wisen up and put that engine or a small 8 in the s-10 ZR2's. If they did, i would be in line to buy one tomorrow. Until then, the ZR2 just sits in a dakotas shadow. A v6 in that size of a truck, pathetic.

Along with my 01 Dak I own a 2000 Blazer and I wish I would have waited a few more months for this model..I for one think it looks sharp, and the extra power must be nice..

The 2002 Chevy Trailblazer is the most powerful SUV in its class. Its attractive and comfortable, definitely ready to compete with the dogde durango, or even the dakota. Go ahead ad test drive one today!

I did a little stop light racing against my
friends trailblazer and it seemed to be an even
race. I spun some, but we were both even up to
40 or so. I was kinda impressed.

A GM mechanic I know said they are having some
engine problem with these also. The blocks are
aluminum and the cylinders are sleeved. This
sleeve somehow works it's way down and when the
piston goes up, BIG problems! I saw two in there
being replaced when I was there a couple weeks
ago.

I used to have a 2k SC Full size silverado with the 4.2 and it only put out 200hp. As for that engine it was ok, but to get 70 more out the year later is kinda odd especially with their small 8 putting out the same power. As for the looks, GOOD GOD is it terrible or what? Its in the rankings with the Aztek in its looks. Yuk!

The Chevy inline 6 is a cast iron block with aluminum heads. It makes a great amount of torque at the bottom end and the hp curve climbs pretty quick. Just wait until you get to see it this September in the all new,MIDSIZE S-10. Looks like Chevy is going to be raising the bar.

That new inline 6 sucks. I have driven both the GMC Envoy and Chevy Trailblazer at work. The motor has the same power characteristics of a 4 cylinder. Nothing at the bottom end of the power curve and very peaky horsepower at redline. They won't spin the tires off a hard start and first gear redlines at 50 mph. If they put that motor in a car then it would be a different story, but it does not feel like a truck. I don't know where all those 270 ponies are, probably right about 5,500 rpm. Just my 2 cents.

You are right Kevin those 270HP are around 5,500 RPM. I can't remember the exact RPM's but 5,500 is very close.

Good news so far no recalls on the 4200 vortec engine. Their is no campaign for sleeve problems at all so far. If their has been any problems they must be isolated quality controll problems.

Company rented one for me to take to Houston. About a 800 mile round trip. My $.02 is it is a P.O.S. Steering was terrible and motor was uninspiring. Just my opinion and just one SUV but I am not a Dodge purist. My other vehicle is a Trans Am. I'll drive Dodge, Ford, or Chevy if I like the particular vehicle at the time of purchase. Safe to say I won't be buying a Trailblazer anytime soon.

We just bought the Trailblazer, didn't want to go to the size of the Durango-class. Comparing to the Explorer, $ for $ it was no comparison. The TB won out hands-down. For you motorheads, the salesmen told us about an in-line 5 that is going into some smaller pick-up next year (S-10??). Keep your eyes out for that.

Just bought 3 of the 4.2 vortecs (I'm a core buyer) the 1 I opened had a sleeve problem ok, a fracture at the sleeve flange. The rest of the sleeve started to work it's way down. The body of the sleeve only went down about 1/8 or so and the top ring cought it. kinda broke things up. GM does not service the sleeves seperately. I am guessing the fit in the block is extremely critical (they are dry sleeves). If they had put a small radius at the flange they probably would not have had the problem. I'm assuming they have fixed this by now.

Man my mom got one of those and I decided to take it out and test drive it, race it. This thing is slow as hell. It wont spin the tires but it will rap out to 6 grand very easy. We have had to replace taillights 5 times in 2 months. And there is a problem with one of the A-arms, something about it falling off. Oh well, other than those and the subsequent swaying all over the road from the slightest breeze, they suck. Don't buy one.
