Mobile 1 went from about $3.50 to almost $5 a quart at WallMart!!

About a month ago, they did have a five quart jug for just under $18. The next time they have those, I'll but more than just 2.

In my last quest for Mobil 1 I found almost a $1.35 a quart price difference between different Wal Mart stores, the highest was $4.77 per which was a regular store, the lowest was $3.45 at a Super Wal Mart, heck even Pepboys was cheaper than the $4.77. When I asked the manager at the high priced WM why the price difference, he looked at me ,said hu, shrugged his shoulders and walked away.

The mobil1 price increase is why I switched to amsoil and if you want my opinion I think it's a better oil anyway.

Walmart in Madison was selling it for $4.99/quart. I went to Checker Auto and they were selling it at the same price. It just so happened that on the day I was going to do my oil change, they put it on sale for $3.99/quart. How much is AMSOIL? Including shipping charges, I can't imagine it'd be much cheaper.

Sounds like a good reason to switch to AMSOIL to me! And the back of the bottle doesn't say change oil every 3000 to make Mobil even richer.

Its true,Amsoil and Redline are better more durable oils than Mobil 1.They both withstand heat better than mobil because they use Polyol esters which are the only ones approved for jet turbine use!

soooo AMSOIL is supposed to last 25,000 miles? That means I would not have to change my oil but like once a year?
I don't think I believe that

Aviation is my life, there is so much more to it than some bozo implying that "it's better because jet airplanes use it" Do you have any concept on what it take to start a new product into aviation? It will boggle your mind. Rule of thumb is that aviation is behind the technology by 10-50years and in most cases way more complex than it needs to be.

I may be wrong but Amsiol smells like AmWay. Witch is a crock anyway.

Although Red Line Oil is touted as a top-notch synthetic oil, oil analysis results show that, at least in passenger vehicle applications, it may not be formulated properly. Red Line oils are for TRUE racing applications. Be careful.

To say an oil is "best for Airline jet engines", therefore best for you automotive needs is false. And I checked out the Amsoil site. That is "not" what they state. They state that is where the founder began ... period, so all you Amsoil bashers can just shut up (I happen to use their products).

Here is my 2 cents and means nothing actually.

Basically aircraft oils are dibasic or polyol esters containing secondary aromatic amines as antioxidants and TCP (Tricresyl Phosphate) for wear.

Automotive oils are hydrocarbons (PAO's, mineral oil of various refinement) with ZDDP (Zinc Diakyl Dithiophosphate) as the main antioxidant/wear additive - automotive oils also can contain phenolic or aminic antioxidants. Automotive oils also contain dispersants/detergents/acid neutralizing additives to handle the combustion by-products not needed in aircraft oils.

Automotive oils are corrosive in aircraft engines because the ZDDP is not stable at the aircraft's operating temperatures. The polyol ester basestock would attack any elastomeric seals, the TCP would not provide antiwear protection. TCP is designed to work at the higher temperatures of aircraft engines, ZDDP was designed to work at the lower combustion engine temperatures. The amine antioxdidants would provide better protection against oxidation but that's partially due to the high concentrations of antioxidants used in aircraft oils. Finally the aircraft oil would not disperse any carbon particles or have acid neutralizers for the combustion products.

The 5 quart jugs are promotional and not bottled on a continuous basis. Thus, they exist at times at Wal Mart, other times not.

Hey BS, I did make that statement. But before you get your panties in a bunch, I was referring to aircraft that is used everyday not a rich mans air yacht. Hence the "Rule of thumb" And I suppose that after every NASA discovery we build an aircraft and fly around with people in it without knowing the long term effects. Don't be such a moron.

I thought that the AMSOIL 25,000 mile or one year oil change interval was a crock of crap also so I took several old vehicles of mine and put AMSOIL in them and had the oil sampled at six months and then at the one year ( I was amazed ) !
In fact I have one oil analysis report that went over 25,000 miles and it came back "suitable for continued use".
If the AMSOIL 25,000 mile oils scare you then go with the AMSOIL XL-7500 oils (7,500 mile change interval).
I use AMSOIL in everything my family owns and when it is good enough to convince my Dad who is nearly 70 years old, very wise, stingy and who owns several fine vehicles ... what can I say?

My Wally World charges $4.75 for a quart of Mobil 1, the gas station (with Mobil Quick Lube) charges $5.00 - you would think the Mobil store would be cheaper since they are the "source". Why can't you by cases of the stuff? Might need to look around in Sams next time the wife is buying toliet paper by the palette full ;)

I checked Sam's Club and the Mobil 1 there was $4.98/quart. This oil stuff is kind of annoying. I want to put only the best oil in my truck and the concensus seems to be that Mobil 1 is the best synth to put in it. I've never heard of AMSOIL before signing onto this site. I'm skeptical because I've never heard of it and I don't see it being widely used.
