Yeah yeah i know, its a slow 2.5L. (1997 Dakota Sport 5 speed)

Im at a light, it turns green and i pull away when all of a sudden I hear the GMC next to me reving way up. He went by. I redlined 2nd and I got up near him, hit third and we were side by side until 85 mph when we both had to let off.

I know for a fact he was racing by the sound of his engine, very high revs. We proceeded to race from the next light, where he totally kicked my ass off the line. I caught up to him again and he went upwards of 80 mph, I stayed right with him after I hit third.

Im assuming it was a V6- it looked like a 2001 Club Cab GMC- everytime he took off he didnt even chirp the tires and he hammered it down both times.

I could go on about the Ford ZX2 kill but, I only have a 2.5L.

I guess my point is im surprised my 2.5L kept pace with the GMC.
-John

PS- I do not race if other cars are around, or near. This was a 2 lane bypass early in the morning, (In Maine no less) no one was endangered.

Lemme see here, my truck has gee- 140 ft/lbs @ 3500 RPM

So frankly I dont know what your talking about when you say I should have beaten him off the line.

I know his truck weighs more but look at those specs.

Great someone else to bash on me...

John: I'm quite confident you can take a full size V6 off the line on the street. A guy I work with has a 2000 gmc 1500 RC with the V6. I tear him up off the line and until about 60 then he creeps by until his speed limiter at 98 or so and that is when my lil dak creeps by him at my top speed of 105 (drag limited).

I've raced numerous V6 daks, rams, s-10's, full size chevys, and fords at the track and on the street. Most of my timeslips have a 60 ft. of about 2.5

You can do it, maybe you need to some mods to open it up a little. I did.

Just read a post where you said your 0-60 is 15 seconds. My 1/8 mile is 11.792 @ 55.98 My 0-60 is a hair over 12. I think it was 12.05 or somethin. And that's at a real track with timers and all, I wasn't counting one-mississippi... It's accurate.

Rmoody- I live near Portland

Dave- My 15 seconds to 60 was by my own stopwatch, so that problably isnt accurate. I have done the thermostat mod, checked the TPS voltage, and did the IAT sensor trick, otherwise my truck is stock performance wise.

Your truck is lighter, im sure you have the advantage.

Goodluck getting the evil spirit out of your truck, I had some issues for awhile with mine barley running, turned out to be an o2 sensor, crank sensor sounds about right for yours- my boss' has the same truck with a v8 and he had the same problems.
