You Think A Gallon Of Gas Is Expensive?
Makes one think and puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ......... $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ....... .$ 9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ............... $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10 .00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ........... $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ........... $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .......... $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ................. $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 ................. .$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER ...
Evian bottled well water 9 oz for $1.49 ......... $21.19 per gallon.
$21.19 FOR WATER! ... and the buyers don't care--nor do they even know the source.

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout or Heaven forbid, PEPTO BISMOL or NYQUIL!!!! Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump!!!

I guess it just sux that we have to buy so much of it everyday....

......but you can choose not to use those other products. I can do without a Diet Snapple but it's hard to do without gasoline. If you want water, then drink tap water and not Evian. If you think gasoline is expensive then take a trip to Europe and see what they are paying for a gallon over there. more like $3-$4. Good thing you don't have to use a gallon of brake fluid eh?

In Dubai (U.A.E.) gas was $2.27 a litre. Multiply that by 3.8, and you have what their gallon of gas costs. $8.63

Excellent stuff TigerDak. I have been trying to get people to realize facts like that for years. If people just stop and think for a second, the gas we pay for is dirt cheap and has been for decades.

I'd like to see some research if anyone has ever done any studies on what percentage of the average American's annual income is spent on one gallon of gas. You would need to go back to 1970, 1980, and today to see and compare. If the average income today is $30,000 and you find out what percentage $1.45 of gasoline is today to this annual income, you get:

0.0000483%

I dont know what the average income was in 1970, 1980, or 1990, and I dont know what the price of gas was, either. Anyone know? Bill?

Europeans and folks in U.A.E. do NOT pay any more for gasoline than we do. They just choose to pay more of their taxes via the local gas station instead of to their version of the IRS. The cost of the gasoline is basically the same (give or take a few cents) the world over. You must eliminate taxes when doing these comparisions.

I don't know if that study has been done TigerDak. I just know that if you look historically at the price of gas, it hasn't changed all that much. Back in the early nineties I remember paying around 80cents-1 dollar for gas. This summer I paid a low price of 97 cents a gallon. So in the past decade, prices have only risen a few cents. There aren't hardly any other products that prices have risen so slowly. But you are right TigerDak, a study like that would be interesting.

Even tho it may be cheap in comparison, it still hurts my wallet to drop 30 bux for gas ever 2 days or sometimes ever other day depending on how heavy my foot is. Im not complaining tho, i signed up to pay extra at the pump by getting my self a supercharger. :)

I remember quite plainly that gas got to about $.80 a gallon here in Phoenix in 1973 during the gas crunch. At the time I was making $1.40 per hour and driving a 440 4bbl Plymouth that was quite thirsty! That thing was VERY heavy as I pushed it thru the gas lines..... not wanting to start it and waste any of the precious fluid.

I'm not feeling too bad about what I spend on fuel now..... thanks to this post. It helped me realize that the price of fuel vs hourly wage earned is much better now!

Well, OK I might still wince a little bit when I fill up..... but that's because I know how many Tacos I could get at Taco Bell for a tank of gas! hahahaha

The gas around this area (Windsor, ONT) is at $.74/litre (for 87 octane)...if you do the ol' X 3.8, it hits $2.82/gallon

then if you take into account the $hitty currenty exchange...holy..if you filled up here it would be REAL cheap....

I can remember a gas war or two in the early 70's when gas hit 19 cents a gallon for an extended period. That's right for you younguns, there used be be such a thing as gas wars where the gas stations fought for your business, not the US fighting for the oil countries. BTW that 19 cents included full service, check the oil and IIRC S&H Green Stamps.

Despite what the environmentalists say, gasoline bought in bulk (gas pump) costs more than water bought in bulk (kitchen sink).

Gasoline bought in bottled form costs more than bottled water.
