I am hoping to take my 2001 CC 3.9 4x4 in tomorrow to have the driver and passenger windows tinted. I want to have them match the windows on the club cab that are factory tinted since the front two side windows are not tinted at all. I don't want to go any darker than the rear windows and I was wondering if anyone knew what percentage those windows are tinted. Also, does anyone have any tips or questions I should ask the place I am having do it? (Anyone know what I should expect to pay???) Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated!

Where are you getting it tinted??? I see them at Autozone and O'Reillys. Can't you just buy the tints from them and put it on yourself?

Here's a pic of my windows tinted the fronts are 20% and the CC window is factory, matched perfect.
Make sure they install a quality tinting film like Solargard or 3M. Also make sure it has a lifetime warranty against scatching, bubbles and that they wont fade. Next do not use anything to clean the tint, excepted for a damp rag. NO windex or glass cleaners, they make the tint turn purple.
As for price, I paid $150(cdn) for the back window and the driver & pass windows.
NOTE: 20% tint in front are illegal. Check your local laws.

I tinted mine using 20% VLT(visible light transmission) tint from Gila. It matches up very well with the factory rear tint. I applied the tint myself, so I can't tell you what it would cost you to have a shop do it. Its pretty easy to do yourself though. I simply bought a roll of tint, made my own template for the window and trimmed the film to match the template. If you are not comfortable making our own template, you can buy the film pre-cut from most auto parts stores. Then just follow the directions on how to apply the film.

You probably will want 65% tint but just so you are aware OHIO law only allows 50% tint. I used to live in OH and I did get 65% tint and never got messed with but be careful on how much darker you go. Luckily I moved to SC and they allow 70%tint so I can go darker IF I want to.

Thanks for the ideas so far guys. I found a place in town that specializes in window tinting so I am going to call them tomorrow and see what they say. I would assume that they know what the legal limit is. I just want something that matches the back windows which aren't that dark and you can still see through it so I would assume I should be ok law wise. Keep the suggestions coming if you have any!!!!

If I have 50% already on the front, what % could I use to tint over it to match the cc windows. Or should I just take the tint off and use 20% ?

I had mine done here in Germany and the Tinter had a device for checking % and concluded that the rear 1/4 windows was 25%. He then tinted my side windows to match. (this is like totally illigal here)

Here in MO we have a state law that just went through and i am going to have mine tinted by our sponsor and he said that our laws are 5% for back glass and CC and 35% driver/passenger window and we can go as dark as 5% on the winsheild strip. Even if your laws allow it dont get the mirrored tint. My guy says they weakend the glue on them so they wont stick to vehicles only to really flat business windows. And definatally get a lifetime warrarnty as Anthony said.

MD law sounds the same as MO. I had installed 35% on the front door wdws on my previous vehicle, big waste of money. You might as well not even do it. Put 20% on my DAK's front wdws, definetly worth the money even though technically it is illegal. No problems seeing out though. Good Luck

I called the guy this morning and he only offered a 3 year warranty so I told him to forget about it. I know a guy in Indiana that has had cars done from a great company over there so I may head down one of these days and let them do it. Hopefully I can get it as dark as I want without breaking any laws. But it doesn't sound like anybody has had any trouble with the cops even if you are a little darker than legal. Thanks again!

I have 5% on my side windows and 5% on the rear glass. Very dark but you can still see at night.

I put 5% on the back window and two side club cab windows and then put 20% on the front driver and passenger side windows... That was ontop of the factory tint that was already there... It's nice and dark... no one can see in during the day and definitely not at night... I paid $200 Canadian installed and it was professional, anti scratch lifetime warranty tint... Be sure to find out what kind of tint they are using... as well, find out if they're going to pop the door panels off or anything like that... the guy that did mine put the tint on the outside to trace the window and then put them on without removing any door panels... it looks awesome...

I just had my two side windows tinted on Monday with 20% film. Normally I do my own tinting, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle. It was worth the $60 of no hassle and prepping. =) I did, however, tint the rear window a month ago. Even though the rear window came tinted from the factory, I applied 20% over it. Putting 50% on any window is a waste of money. 35% isn't so bad, but still somewhat of a waste. The look I wanted required 20%. It looks darker from the outside than it is on the inside. The only state where 20% tint is legal is New Mexico. Most local police departments don't care. Here in Wisconsin, the State Patrol are the only ones who will give you any greif about it. They usually give you a warning and require you to have it removed and prove it within 5 days.
If you're concerned about tint laws, this website lists the tinting laws for most of North America. Not sure how up to date it is though.

That's a good site Mighty. The thing I have to worry about is, I live in Ohio, but I go to college in Indiana and they have pretty significant differences in laws. My truck is registered in Ohio, but Indiana has laws that allow for the tint to be darker. I'll just have to see what I can get done and what looks the best and weigh my options. Thanks again.

i got a 97 5.2 5spd reg cab dak, i put limo tint (5%) on the front 2 windows, 50% on the front windshield, and 5% plus the factory 20% on the rear. ive been pulled over twice here in michigan, both times i took a picture of my friends black dakota to court and paid no fines, now i got a eye doctors prescription for tinted windows so cops cant f**k with me anymore lol, i paid 70 bucks at zieberts for all 4 windows
