did you have the factory remote keyless entery?

Right now my truck has the factory remote keyless entery, no alarm, but I would like to get a remote start with alarm. Do you know if it's possible with a factory keyless entry setup?

Clevite - I've been looking for a remote start that uses the factory remote. I've heard someone on this board say they've done it but that's all the details I know of..

If anyone knows of a Remote Start while keeping the factory remote.. I'd really like to know how it was done.

Can you put a remote start in a manual transmission vehicle? I wouldn't mind putting on in my truck. Wisconsin winters suck!

I actually heard of a system that works with your stock keyless entry. You set it up so that you hit lock, unlock, lock and it starts. I guess you can set it to read a certain procedure with the locks and your golden. However, i don't know anyone that actually has this system...

I installed a remote starter in my truck with 5-spd. Most places these days will not install one in a manual because of liability reasons. You see, you have to wire the unit to bypass the clutch switch to start the truck. Unfortunately, there is no way for the processor to verify the tranny is in neutral before bypassing the clutch switch. If the vehicle is not in neutral, it will roll on startup, hence the liability. I wired in a microswitch in series with the clutch bypass switch, and attached it to the parking brake arm such that pressing the parking brake down hard, activates the switch, allowing the start. I though to use the switch already on the parking brake, but it is a ground interupt switch and wont support a relay. It is still dangerous to some extent, If I leave it in gear and auto start it and the brake doesn't hold the truck, lookout! On an auto, there is a switch to tell the unit if the vehicle is in park or neutral. Honestly, it's probably not worth it on a manual.

If you buy a remote start/alarm combo w/ keyless entry for about $200 you can throw out the factory remote and just use the alarm's remote. Remember whatever the stock system ustes for the remote it doesn't matter you wire the new unit off your power lock switch.

The problem with a remote start that works off the factory transmitter is range. The factory only works for about 100 yards. Most aftermarket work for 500 yards or more. Mine works for almost 2 mi. (Factory claim) I have tested it at 1 mi. and it worked perfectly. It is made by Ungo.
