Ok, I was in my truck today and had to move it about an inch. Bah, I'm not turning this beast on for a mere INCH! So, I put the key in the ignition, turn it to unlock the tranny, put it in neutral and let the truck slide an inch. Heres the scary part. When I slightly turned the steering wheel, the entire car locked up! The brakes locked up, tranny locked up (even putting it in park which is a bad thing didnt stop the truck), and the steering wheel locked up aswell. Had to turn the truck on to get it to stop. I was thinking, maybe it was just a wierd one time thing. Tried it on a hill and had the same results.

My question is, is this common? If so, WHY?! Could you imagine a kid inside the car for a momment turning the ignition on and pull it in drive/neutral? I know lot of cars require the brake being pressed to throw it in drive/neutral.

Actually, the brakes probally didn't lock up. They are just power brakes and next to -impossible- to use if there isn't any residual vacuum in the master cylinder to assist you. If you use both feet and push -real- hard, you might get it to stop.

The tranny and steering locked up because of the steering lock. You didn't turn it to 'Run', did you?

And people shouldn't leave their kids in their trucks with the keys in the ignition on a hill! Thats just -stupid-!

If your towing, you -want- the front wheels locked. :0)

Otherwise the truck would wander all over the road. Think about it, trailers don't have front wheels that turn when you do.
