Bernd,

Is it 264 intake or 250 intake? By the figures you gave for valves opening and closing it works out to 251 intake, 261 exhaust. I know centrelines com in to play too. Just wondering. Also what are the valve spring pressures?

I brought this back up to the top to see what I need to do about getting a new cam.

Bernd, after reading some of your respones, thanks for the info to others, I'll try and keep the lobe around 114.

So here is my story.

I have a 97 4x4, 5.2.
Currently running:
-JBA's headers, high flow cat, flomaster40 (lost tq due to less restrictive exhaust)
-Homebrew intake with feed from the removed rubber flap by the rad & Holley power shot filter.
-180 T-stat
-Soon to be e-fan BM 150 with BM 114 in front of the a/c.
-Soon to be IAT adjuster.

Wanting to add (all at the same time as the cam!)
-M1 2bbl
-Ported heads, not for sure, please help on which ones.
-50mm TB, figured better than 52 for non super.
-cam, of course
-Milodon cheater gear (if I can get it to work) or double roller timing chain
-Underdrive pullies
-roller rockers 1.6
-roller lifters (if possible)
-MSD offroad ignition and Blaster SS coil 8.5mm wires
-replace the homebrew with 14" round K&N, getting ready for ram air hood.
-Custom PCM flash for the pkg completion
-4.56 gears

I think that about sums it up. I want to be able to keep tq because I plan on getting a 4000lb boat and I like to off road a lot. But, I don't mind loosing a little as long as I have plenty of top end. This truck isn't a daily, so I need not worry about mpg. And no more warranty!
The cams I have looked at is around the 292/292 @.050" w/.509/.509 Is this too much cam and will I loose too much in the low end, after adding the M1 also? SHould I go a little lower in duration?

Last, but not least, can I keep the stock tq converter for the tranny with that cam?

I'll be going on a trip into never-never land, but should have limited net access, so I might not read this again until late Feb.
Thanks in advance.

Boomer

Whooo. That is a flat tappet race cam. Very poor idle no torque below 3000rpm. If it is the one I am thinking of it has a 108 deg lob separation and 72 degrees of over lap. Not even that liveable in a 360 carb application.

Cams you should be looking at are the comp cams 254HR-12 and 262HR-12
At the bottom of the page third section down under present magnum engines.

The one I reccomend the most is Hughes Engines HER0814AL
It has the 114 degree lobe separation angle and a good lift as well. Don't forget the valve springs as well. Sounds like a fun project. Wish I had that many easy mods for my truck. I am really excited about Bernds turbo.
