Any troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!

The AC canister is located directly above the exhaust manifold (or headers if you have them). I would think that insulating the can from that intense heat would have to have some positive cooling effect.

I'm going to try it. Where do you get some HIGH QUALITY glue-on insulation??

I have a similar problem on my 2000 v6, my air blows cold when i first start it. Everything seems to be working properly because all the lines are cold as well as the condensor and the compressor is running. As soon as i start to drive however, it can even be just around the block, the air starts blowing warm and by the time i get home all the lines are warm as well but the compressor is still coming on and off like its supposed to. In order for the air to get cold again, i'll have to wait until the truck cools back down. Anybody know what could be causing this?

is the electric fan running when the compressor runs? if not, start by checking the relay then the fan motor itself.

It could be low on refrigerant and therefore the LOC (loss of charge, low pressure) switch is turning off the compressor.

I would look and see if the compressor is actually working when it gets hot...

I had a similar problem on my 99. Ofcourse the friggin A/C breaks RIGHT after I hit 36,000 miles. That was back in '01. Finally fixed it this year. For me it was the A/C compressor clutch that was bad. And because it's Dodge, you can't replace just the clutch, you have to replace the entire compressor (even though my compressor was perfectly fine). My friend gave me a Ram compressor. Same compressor, but a bigger clutch, so I just put on a bigger belt. So since April, my A/C has been ICE cold. It blows about 36-38 degrees. I LOVE it in this south Texas heat.
