I am wondering if synthetic ATF is woth the price? I have been told it can keep the temp down in your tranny but isnt that what a tranny cooler is for? My mechanic told me my 93 4x4 Dakota w/318 has a tranny cooler already, so would the synthetic make it even lower? What other benefits would the synthetic give me besides lower temp? Finally, with the old fluid in my torque converter, wouldnt that lessen the benefits of the full synthetic? What brand besides Amsoil for Chrysler tranny's?

Amsoil's about it. Someone said Redline has one too but you'll need to check. It does help it stay cooler and yes, you should consider a tranny cooler first. On top of all that, if you're going to use your Dak for hard work like towing or for racing, you should get a Mag Hytec pan. It will hold more fluid plus I believe it has a plug which can be removed to put in a sensor to tell you your transmission fluid temperature and it has a drain plug.

As far as mixing fluids, you should take it to a place that can flush the old oil out. Then all the oil will be new and the same stuff.
