I can't remember the capacity. I think it is either 11 or 14 gallons total, but I'm not sure. Be sure and drain the block as well as the radiator. The drain plug for the block is on the right (passenger) side, and is accessable from underneath. Also, be sure and used distilled water, not tap. It is less than $.65/ gallon usually at Wal-mart or a grocery store.
Hope this helps.

Whats wrong with regualr tap water? Also, I though I remember reading that there was a special type of coolant to use in these trucks. My buddy has a VW and he used the wrong coolant and trashed his thermostat.

Tap water has too many minerals and stuff in it that could feasibly clog your radiator...just like water through galvanized plumbing in a house will eventually clog it up with calcium and other nasty stuff...ever heard of "hard water"? Distilled water has had the minerals taken out of it. I've used tap water if I'm just adding a little bit, but for a flush, I'd use distilled water.

I was going to add some coolant to my 2002, and then I read in the owner's manual that it has to be some kind of special type with HOAT additives, or it runs the risk of trashing the radiator. I tried to find some antifreeze at he auto parts store that specifically mentioned this, but I couldn't find any. So, I decided to play it safe and bought a gallon of Mopar coolant...OUCH! I'm glad it was only a gallon...I don't know what the difference is, but I didn't want to take a chance on ruining my new radiator and voiding the warranty, so $18 was cheap assurance, I guess.

11 OR MORE GALLONS !!!!!!!! Holy $hit thats alot of cooland its about $6 - $8 a gallon around here depending on brand. The service guy at my local dodge deal said to use any "green" coolant that I do not need that expensive orange coolant that my camaro requried.

Most of the newer vehicles take the extended life coolant (orange) usually good for 3 yrs or 100,000 miles, older vehicles use the (green) , If you mix them you ruin the life of the coolant.

My 01 has the orange coolant

14 quarts is more like it. Never heard of a vehicle using 14 GALLONS of coolant. Good God. Usually 4 gallons tops should do the trick.
