Wow, finally found a board that is dedicated to Dakotas…. Cool.

I have a 2 wheel drive 2000 Dodge Dakota Club Cab with a 4.7L V8, dual exhaust coming from a 1 in & 2 out muffler (left original exhaust and changed muffler and remaining pipe) and am currently running 31x10.50x15’s on the stock Dodge Dakota 15” rims with no suspension modifications at all. My only problem with my tires rubbing are when I hit a large pothole or a nasty railroad crossing and my drivers side tire hits the fender well…I am a 280 lb guy so I weigh that side of the truck down more.

I have been reading around the different categories on the board here and seeing lots of posts about different mods such as Thermostat changes, exhaust changes, throttle body changes, Computer flashes, and IAT mods to name just a few. Since I cannot for the life of me find a manual in the store on my truck, I am therefore somewhat “dumb” about my motor. My old Chevy 350 was no problem, it had a distributor in the back behind the carb, spark plugs below the exhaust header sticking out the heads and a thermostat up front and so on, this 4.7L with its somewhat different look has me baffled. I saw where someone mentioned looking at a manual for a Jeep Grand Cherokee but the engine in that manual looked more basic than mine does. There were a few “drawn” illustrations that resembled mine in the sparkplug area but no real decent pictures.

My questions are basically this: (and I am sorry for asking what’s been posted in different places but at least mine is in 1 place)

Where is my thermostat? I found the top hose, followed it to where it connects to the motor but do not see where I can remove and screws, lift a thermostat housing and replace the thermostat.

I have never replaced spark plugs with these kinds of caps, I understand needing air to keep the foreign materials out of the cylinders but want to make sure that if I pay attention and am careful that I won’t break any of these caps.

Is there and if so where is the rotor & distributor cap on this engine?

Has anyone come to a final determination of which body lift kit is worth a darn? Which has the least amount of problems?

Has anyone heard if any companies have actually made any progress with lifted spindles for the Dakota? They make them for the RAM, why not a smaller one for the Dakota?

Electric Superchargers? Ha Ha…. not going to bother asking.

Hello, I'll help you with one of your questions.
There is no cap/ rotor as this engine is a "coil over." If you look at where the spark plugs go, you will see a contraption on top of it that is the coil.

You will find the thermostat housing on the bottom hose connected to bottom front of the engine. Go figure..Making them harder to service instead of easier.
