Hello! First off, let me say that these forums have been an integral part in my decision to purchase a dodge dakota... I have tested many different trucks, did the whole price comparison/butt dyno comparison... and have decided on a 2002 V6 CC Dakota Sport. I was wondering what you all think is a fair price? I have online quotes from places like edmunds.com, but would like some real people input.

I had a bad experience over at my local Dodge dealership... salesman tried to tell me that they don't stock the extended cab in manual transmission because hardly anyone drives trucks with a 5-speed... I must'a laughed at him on the spot... after catching him on something like this...lets just say my confidence level in him was very low...and I ended up leaving before going over finances. They didn't have EXACTLY what I want on the lot anyway.

I am also finding it VERY difficult to find exactly what I want... and most dealers won't get into custom ordering a 2002 so late into the year...

The options I want aren't that big of a deal... fog lights, tilt wheel, bucket seats, power windows/mirrors/locks, infinity sound...in an extended cab V6 Graphite color.
not too much to ask in my oppinion...

I guess they are holding a huge tent sale next week, where 5 dealerships are going to be representing... so I hope to strike a deal there... I wanted to know what you all had to say before going into this. Tips/Suggestions?

Thank you for ANY information you can give me... this will be my first BIG purchase... hopefully I won't screw it up. So far I've owned a little Hyindai economy car... I'm ACHING for a taste of power! I can't even run my A/C in my current car without the little 1.5 liter getting angry at me...

Soon to be part of the club,

Rudy

I know you will enjoy whatever Dakota you buy. I bought a V6 CC SLT last July and have put over 23000 miles on it in its first year and have loved almost all of the miles. There have been a few minor problems that the dealer has always taken care of.

I would say it is almost impossible to order a 2002 Dakota now. My uncle works for a GM truck plant and they have been building 2003s for about 3 weeks now so the 2002s are history at least for GM.

One thing I can tell you, don't take any crap from any salesman. If they try to tell you something that doesn't sound right, just get up and walk away. You are about to spend a lot of your hard earned money and you should get exactly what you want. I ended up paying about $2500 under invoice after rebates and some negotiations. I thought that was a pretty good deal, plus with my trade in, it was even lower than that. It is good that you are doing your homework. Ask to see the invoice on trucks that you are looking at, if they won't show it to you, I would leave.

Good luck on your decision. The Dakota is a great truck and blows everything else away in its class. Let us know how things turn out!

Rudy,
The first thing you need to do is find out what the invoice price is on your truck. To do this you need to know what options you want on your Dak. You can find this information on the internet and from a dealer that I recommend to anyone purchansing a vehicle. The dealer name is Dave Smith Motors in Idaho. The number is 1-800-635-8000. Also on the internet at www.davesmith.com. They sell all vehicles at $58 dollars over invoice. This does not include rebates or incentives. They will give you a price quote right over the phone. Even if you don't buy from them it is a great start. They are a great dealership to deal with and sell all over the U.S. My last vehicle I bought I didn't buy from them and that was only because they couldn't get the vehicle I wanted before the rebate was over. However, I knew what the invoice price was on the vehicle I wanted and used it to my advantage. Dealers around where I live hate Dave Smith Motors.

Hope this helps a little bit. I know it did for me.
Good Luck

I'll give you what I did when I bought my 2002 CC Dakota Sport Plus.

Do all of your homework on the internet first. Find out exactly what you want and build it on Dodge's web site. Write down or Print it out. Then Search on the internet for that exact truck { or something close to it} and print out the invoice'es. Then go to http://www.edmunds.com and Find the invoice price for the truck and talk them down within ~$500 of that price.

If you have a sh*t load of paper work that you can throw at them when they say" We sell our cars at invoice price" you can catch them in there own lie. :O) this is what I did and I got my truck from $26,000~ list price down to $22,500 w/ 1,000 bucks off.

Buying a car from a dealer had to have been the most stress full and confusing time. They like to play games with numbers and intrest rates but it all adds out to the same.

Oh and do another thing when you go bring a calulator with you that way you add it all up right in front of person. I did that and I caught the guy in his own lie when he snuck in an extra $2,000 out of the blue. And plan to be there for awhile. Whe I got mine I got there early like 10am, I wasn't out of there until 6pm that night fighting about prices and finace stuff.

Remember there out to sscrew you so give it right back to them.

My $.02
