Subject: Anyone have AC issues?
IP: Logged

Message:
Does anyone notice their AC getting incredibly loud. I have a 2K 4.7 and when the AC's on, it sounds like the truck is part gas and part electric-lawnmower. The sound fluctuates with the RPMs. Anyone know how to fix it. The dealer has looked at it a couple of times but always comes back with "normal noise".

Thanks,
YJ

Yes it is normal. When the AC is on, the electric fan comes on. After a while the hot air being pulled in by the electric fan heats up the thermostatically controlled fan and makes it cut in also. Thats where all the noise comes from.
You can adjust the thermostat by varying the length of the bimetalic coil on the front of the unit.
If you make it longer it will come on sooner, shorter just the opposite.
Mine wasn't coming on at all and I was having some overheating problems. I adjusted the coil and it cuts in a lot sooner now, probably to soon.
Makes a lot of noise, but no more overheating.
One of these days I'll see if I can fine tune it a little more.
Hope this helps.

Thanks a million bb. Would've never guessed. I'm assuming when you say, 'the bimetalic coil on the front of the unit', I'm assuming you're saying in front of the thermostatically controlled fan. I'll try to find it.

Thanks again!

Yes, the thermostatic fan.
I tweeked mine last night to see if I could get it to come on a little later.
The bimetal coil is really hard to bend.
Also when you unscrew the fan assembly from the pully keep it vertical so the silicone doesn't leak out.

i got some ac issues...my ac only comes on once in a while. when it dosent come on the compressor isnt spinning or anything...but when it does come on it usually goes out a few min. later...i was thinking it could be the compressor going bad itself or maybee the inline relay in the wire going into the unit...? i dunno....any help would be much appreciated. thanks

Wow, mdandl, that was helpful. Nice color truck by the way. I don't think I've seen one like it. Quite cool.
