Well, I just got my truck back from the dealer and as expected I'm not impressed. The reason I took it is because when I am at WOT or whenever I kick my truck into passing gear and hold the pedal down until the tranny shifts it makes a chirp or slip sound. The dealer had at first called me and said my truck was ready, when I got there the paper work said that there was no problem found. I was a bit pissed and asked for the manager to go for a ride. He did and I showed him exactly what the noise was. I left the truck there once more and after about an hour he calls me back saying the noise or problem would have to worsen before they could diagnose it. What should I do? Try to blow the tranny? The truck only has 8000 miles on it and don't feel like waiting around for it to worsen and leave me stranded. Also I told him that the driver side brakes made a pop or click noise whenever you applied the brakes, I also had to show that to him on the ride because they said no problem was found for that either. His reply was that it was probably just where the pads had worn and that it was normal. Now I was really pissed! This click noise is very loud and can be heard a good ways away! I told him that there is no way that was normal and that it had only done it for a week. He said they will look at it again when the door panel they had to order came in. I really like the truck but am starting to worry about it's reliability. What would you guys do about the tranny? I'm just trying to figure out what to do. Thanks

Like many other posts have stated: Dealer repair work is very poor!

I used to take both my cars there when they were new. I have found a local guy who is very good and is straight about repairs.

If I were you I would take the truck to a local well know good shop. Have them check it out and give you a quote to fix it. It may cost but if they can pin point the problem and since you have low miles I assume your warranty is good still. Even if not like a doctor if you do not like his opinion you can get a second. My dealer forced me to do this and I take both my cars to my local guy now. With dealers you do not get what you pay for. They charge you up the ... and you still end up with problems. I would also tell the dealer that you are taking this to another shop since you believe they are not properly handling your problem.

Did the Dealer maint guy agree when he drove with you it had a problem? If so I would say they need to fix it, even if they have to replace the tranny cause they can't find a problem.

That is total BS to for them to tell you " I guess you'll just have to wait til it get worse before we can fix it". Yeah right I agree, lets get stranded on the highway with no cell signal and no exit for miles.

Sorry so long but lastly,
There was a local guy who on the back of his truck in Huge letters wrote "100% Unsatisfied with (dealer Name) for poor maintnance. They can't / won't fix my truck!"

Thought that was funny and it was a Dodge Ram.

Go to another dealer. Tell the new dealer the problems with your truck AND the problems with the other dealer. Go from there...I always like to get atleast two opinions in a matter I can't figure out myself. I know dealer mechanics suck, but if your on warranty what can you do? Dealerships can afford to hire kids right out of highshool or sub-average mechanics...they have high turnaround. A family operation on the other hand HAS to be good or they go out of business...maybe get it diagnosed by a independant mechanic, then have the dealer do the work?!

My Dodge dealer sux a big fat one! I used to have a Stratus in college and I had several problems with it. The Dodge dealer realy was a pain whenever I took it in. I finally took it in to a Jeep dealer, and they were awesome! Very nice and polite. The first time I picked it up, they said that whoever had been working on the engine either didn't care about the customer or didn't know what they were doing. So you might want to try a Jeep dealer for your warranty work.

Go back and have them put it in writing that it has a problem they can't yet diagnose, that way if it does it until 36,001 miles then decides to break they won't try to weasel out of the warranty.

I appreciate all the replys. Yes the warranty is still good, atleast for 7 years or 100,000 miles. He still says it needs to get worse and even put in writing the noise was heard but would have to check again. I am going to the next closest dealer which is 45 minutes away to see what they say. I'm so pissed right now its not funny. The manager said my brakes were normal even though they make a loud clanking and clicking noise when applied. If thats true then I want something other than a dodge.

Hey Quad man, you have a nice lookin truck, Don't get discouraged, I know it is easy to do but keep cool. I have 2 Daks, my latest is my 02 quad cab 4x4, 4.7 automatic. In response to your brake problem, did the dealer actually remove the rear brake drum??? if not it could have a small rock pebble inside from maybe when and if ya went wheelin off road, this happens at times,...The trans I have not heard this in my 02 nor my 2k Dak, but I dont nail it to the floor so maybe I should try this and see if mine makes this noise..The pop or click from brakes could also be a frozen adjuster, the piece that rides on top when the shoes move is clicking on the star rotator because it is frozen or stuck... I see you have 8k on trans, Ask the dealer to service the transmission under warranty, new filters and fluid, you never know it could solve the problem... If you pay to have it done 150.00 so try to convince them to do this..It is worth a try. Good luck. This would also give them the opportunity to see inside the trans pan.. DO IT.
