I want a quick truck, but I am also looking for least amount of effort. How long do the autos last for and how is their performance?

You might have answered your own question. "Least amount of effort". There isn't much effort putting a shifter into "D". If you take care of your auto (fluid and filter changes, band adjustments, etc.) it should last as long as anything else. Personally I went with a 5 spd for the sheer joy of shifting for myself, in addition to the a manual draining less power from the engine. Hopefully my only repairs would be a clutch replacement. Good luck with your choice.

I prefer the 5-speed, you can read-line every gear and accelerate faster.

God I wish my truck was 5-speed!

Manuals are fun, I mean, I have one, but:

"want a quick truck, but I am also looking for least amount of effort"

That would be the Dakota R/T!
