Subject: CRUISE CONTROL "TANGO UNIFORM"

Message:
The cruise control on the 99 Dakota, 5-speed manual went out today returning from a camping trip. I was traveling 55 with it on, all of a sudden, I fell as if I decelerating (I am - ). Click the cruise button on, on, on, no joy -- no indicator light, no cruise control. Hopefully this is a frequent occurrance and all I need to do is swap out a switch or a fuse somewhere. Anyone??

I just had the exact thing happen on my 92. After checking the voltage to the servo and leaks in the lines I traced it back to the microswitch under the set button. Replaced the switch assembly and it works fine again. Seems odd though that your switch would go out that soon.

The speed is held by cruise control with a vacuum operated diaphragm. The round thingie over to the passenger side front corner with lines leading to the throttlebody is the vacuum unit that controls the speed. Check all the vacuum lines leading to this and to the intake manifold. I had a vacuum line fall off the manifold and I lost cruise and all control over the dash/floor vents. Them vacuum lines control a lot of stuff......
