Well, she just turned over 85K miles, and i've been real happy with the truck and all, but the other day CLUNK there went the transmission. The guys at the shop tried to see if it was something they could adjust externally, but were unable to do so, and say that it is an internal problem and the only thing to do about it is open the tranny all up, which basically prompts a rebuild apparently. This is going to set me back about $1400 for the rebuild + $350 for a torque convertor if they need to replace the one i got.

Do these prices sound reasonable, and has anyone else had problems with premature failure of the transmission like this? I drive to work through a pretty hilly area and end up switching overdrive off somewhat frequently...would this cause some kind of unusual wear?

thanks

The trans went about 3 months ago at 84k in my 94' V8. Cost $1200 even. Cracked valvebody and trans guts throughout the cooling system. Now use just an auxilary cooler and bypassed the stock cooler. Shop said it should alst forever as far as i'm concerned
