I just bought a used '99 Dakota 4X4 club cab 5.2
Lt. with 40,000 mi. The guy that had it obviously
took great care of it. Runs great and looks great.
I really love it. Was wondering if anyone
had any info on problems to watch for, or general
tips for maintenance/care. thanx

Some common problem areas seem to be brakes (warping front and rear) and ball joints. And I've heard that the 3.9/5.2/5.9 tend to blow belly pan gaskets prematurely.

With 41,500 miles my brakes are fine (50% pad in front, 70% in rear and no warping). My ball joints are ok too. And I have no belly pan gasket to worry about.

Anyone know a permanent fix to that belly pan gasket failure issue? I've read about something called an M1 intake manifold? Is this a performance modification or something that can be used without any other modification to the engine? I'm fairly new to the dodge world and am interested in buying a dakota with the 5.2L. The other issues I have heard of before (ball joints, brakes), but this is the first I've heard of the belly pan failure. Is it really that big a concern??
