Fellas,

The gas gauge is deliberately messed up. The low fuel light goes off early, because if you run out of gas, it will most likely burn up your fuel pump or make it quit a whole lot early. The pump needs lots of gas to keep it cooled and lubricated.

Despite that, mine quit on me with only 35,000 miles (and I never ran out of gas).

Damned Germans took over Chrysler and are giving it back to us in spades (they act like we won the war and they won the peace).

"Never you mind zat zere is no time left on ze varranty!"

Neither Ford nor Chevy ever gave me that crap. It was miles, not months that they honored.

Maybe it's a local thing, but now, it's global, and the same SOBs that helped the Iraqis and Saudis buy Mercedes Benzes and weapons of mass destruction are selling us their re-labeled vehicles right here in our own back yards.

Remember France & Germany just six months ago?

Go figger.

Would rather have an old Dodge 4x4 that romped over the Fatherland in '45 and beyond. By the way, I did once, and it was an M-880 with a 318 cid gasser. It ran like hell on the autobahn and all over Fritz's backyard, and it sure was easy to fix.

Let's get this business back under American Control!

Guys,

There is a thing known as usable fuel in aircraft and this could be the same thing as our Daks. There may be some fuel left but the pickup cannot get it to the engine because of the design of the tank. Have not looked into this too much on the DAK. But I have a 71 Datsun 240z that I storing for awhile so I ran the car till it ran out of gas then I took the plug out of the tank and got another few gallons of fuel out of it. So the differnce between what you put in and what is useable is why dodge may have done this.

Havn't you guys seen the episode of Seinfeld where Cramer refuses to fill up his car because he wants to see how far he can go when the needle hits empty? Like some said before, it most likely comes on early to prevent people from running out.

It also depends on where the inlet hose is.
if the inlet hose is in the front of the tank and you go up a steep hill, no gas will get to your motor. Just another reason

What is the rationale for running a fuel tank totally empty? Learn your vehicle's average mpg, and reset your trip odometer when you fill up. My father once told me, "It takes the same amount of money to drive a car with an empty tank as a full one," (i.e.vehicle expense).

I have an '02 QC. the book says 24 gal. tank. I have gone a couple of times WAY below empty - not really by choice - and when i filled-up it took 23+ gals. I am sure a bit of that was in the neck but that is about as close to empty - and still runs- in a 24 gal tank as it gets i guess.

I've also ran my QC (24 gall tank), a little over 23 galls, and never ran out of gas.

do you have an overhead comp, or keep the avg mpg? If so, check the "miles til empty" to see how much the truck thinks it still has in the tank. Mine, w/ovhd comp seems to be right on when the light comes on.
