Ok here is the deal, my brother has a 99 RC R/T (45000 miles). This past week his tranny started to act up, it is shifting really hard and the shift points are messed up. Any ideas on what to check ??

Second question, he took it to the dealer because he purchased the extended warrenty. They said the because he lowered it, it voids the transmission warrantee !!!!! The service manager (think thats who told him this) told him that because he altered the suspension that is alters the anble that the drive shaft is at and therefore voids the warrenty !!!! I;m thinkin this guys does not know what the hell he is talkin about. Any thoughts or imput will help greatly !!!!!!

Yeah...one word to the Service Manager: BUL-SH-T!

Lowering the vehicle has NOTHING to do with the transmission. (And i'll bet money that it's the, very common, sensor problem with the transmissions.)

The dealer is jsut too freekin' lazy to deal with a TSB.

Ok I went out to the garage and looked at mine. The god damn driveshaft goes from the tranny into the rear axle. I have the same lowering kit that he does. So in the rear there are 3" lowering blocks and all they do is pull the bed of the truck closer to the axle correct ?? So the driveshaft location or angle never changes.

Lowering the rear end of your Dakota in some instances (depends on the kit) can change the driveline angles but, so can hauling a small load in the back of your truck.
This dealers statement is an old wives tale and in 99.9% of all cases is not true.
However, a very "improperly" raised or lowered Vehicle can damage a transmission, but it is very rare.
Always try to buy a kit that has the provision to correct the factory driveline angle or that has it built into the parts.

Nitro: TSB = Technical Service Bulletin.

If the dealer thinks that it is out of spec on the pinion angle...have them measure it. (I'll bet money it's within spec.)

The problematic sensor is the Governor Pressure Sensor. This causes erratic shifing, won't shift at WOT on the 1-2 shift (hits the rev-limiter), or just switches back and forth at random from 4-3 at normal cruise.
