Subject: Rough Running..HELP!

Message:
Here's some quick background:
95 CC 4X4 with the 3.9L. I got about 92,000 miles on it and while up in Kentucky at the in-laws I put in some 3923's, new wires and a 180 T-Stat. Life was good, truck running great, ran from Louisville to St. Louis and back then started on down to S. Georgia. I got around Atlanta when she started running rough, sounds like it's missing! My mileage went from 18.5 to 14.5. I made it back home but the ole girl ain't happy! I've pulled the plugs and they look fine, I checked the wires and they're good, spark is flowing out the other end of 'em !!
So.....could it be the in tank fuel filter/pump thingy? Of course my fuel gauge doesn't work so I would imagine that the entire unit may be on the way out. Any other ideas? What are the symptoms of bad "belly pan" gasket and what is that really?!
Any and all help greatly appreciated!

Thanks-

Mark

Yeah, I thought of that. I was able to run it about 1/2 way down and I filled up again and drove another 100 miles with no change. Maybe that wasn't a good idea.....my thought was it would be better to add some other gas and it would fix or dilute the bad gas (if that was it) but it had no effect.

That's the strange thing that has me shaking my head, it started "missing/rough running" while driving! I put about 1000 miles on it in the last few days and the last 150 was when it started.

Hmmmmmmm.........

I had the same problem with my '97 Dakota- it was the first oxygen sensor- sounds like its missing- almost like a bad plug. I had someone pull the codes and they said o2. Good luck

I tried checking the codes by turning the key on and off twice and then back on, just like the book says and it came back with nothing but a 5 5. According to my Haynes book that means the test is complete. Does that mean there are no codes? I hate to just throw a bunch of replacement parts at it hoping it might be one of them!! This is my first Dakota and really know little about them, obviously!
All help and thoughts are greatly appreciated. Keep on thinking.....

If you got some bad gas you might have clogged a fuel injector, try running some cleaner throught it. Just a thought.
