Subject: lowering my dakota

Message:
ive recently been thinking about taking up some space between the tires and the wheel wells. i just think it would look better if they were closer together. i know the job would get done by lowering the truck so ive been looking at 2" front,4"rear drop kits. would this affect my being able to tow my jet skies in any way??? how much space would be taken up if i just get put 16X8 rims with 30" tires on it?? my only concern is the look and being able to tow my skies...

What truck do you have?

A 2/4 drop should not affect light towing.
The size of the rims doesnt matter, it's the overall tire size.

I've got a 2001 Quad Cab, lowered 3/4. Looks good, rides good. Still the stock wheels/tires: 255/65R16. That's a 29" tire. I think you could fit a 30" tire (e.g. a 30x10-18) at this level of drop. Certainly a 29" fits easily.

actually i was either going to lower it or put the bigger tires on it...i guess i was just wondering what the results would be of putting on 16x8 rims with 30" tires...would that take up the sufficient space that im looking for or would i have to lower it...?

Depends on the look you want. 30" tires aren't that much bigger than stock. You'll still have a huge (my opinion) gap. Lower handles better, too.
