 Subject: tailgate question?

Can someone tell me how to get the piece around the tailgate handle off? I MAY use one of those Pop Locks, but want to see how bad it will scratch it before I attempt to use one...Are there any other ways to lock the tailgate,maybe with a zip tie or something? Thanks...

I installed the PopnLock without removing the trim around the handle. Just loosen the tourqe's bolts on the inside and install it carefully. The instructions were simple.

handi's right - just get a torx driver bit and unscrew the bolt/screw that's on the back side of the handle. everything else just comes right off. For installing the POP N LOCK however, you don't have to remove the piece around the handle.

Just put the pop and lock on my 2002. I had to remove the plastic piece around the handle because even with the torx loosened all the way, still couldn't get it to fit. I used masking tape around the bottom of the plastic and very carefully inserted a putty knife, first on the bottom left then work my way across to the right. That plastic piece just snaps in and should come off fairly easy. Take your time. To reinstall first put the top of the plastic piece in them snap the bottom in place.

I do not see how you can not take the trim piece off? The Pop and Lock has to fit begind the metal of the tail gate and when the key is urned, it loks the top half over the handle? Maybe I do not understand what you are saying?
